2018 Buick Regal GS Spied With Some Serious Performance Upgrades

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback and Regal TourX won’t be arriving at U.S. dealerships until late fall, but Buick is busy working on its third addition to the Regal lineup.

That would be the 2018 (potentially 2019) Buick Regal GS. New spy shots show it’s in for credible performance updates along with much more aggressive styling. Of course, these shots continue to come after the Chinese-spec Regal GS was leaked on the internet. There’s been no confirmation the image is legitimate, but the Chinese have often been correct in the past.

Other than the more aggressive looking body, the brakes tell a story. This Regal GS prototype is wearing pretty large brakes and they’re scripted with the Cadillac font.  Buick may be borrowing from the parts bin for now, but we’ll likely see high-performance brakes make production anyway.

As for power, Buick is still being quiet. Though, the brand’s Canadian operations may have spoiled the surprise. Earlier this year, Buick Canada posted a Buick Regal GS information page to its website which proclaimed a 3.6-liter V6 engine is under the hood. Should this information be true—we’ve heard on numerous occasions a V6 will be offered—it’s like GM’s LGX variant, which powers plenty of other vehicles. No word on forced induction, however.

We may see the new Regal GS make a debut later this year, but if the performance oriented Buick skips the rest of 2017, it will likely debut early next year. That’s a guesstimate, though.
