The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 comes close to matching the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat‘s 707 horsepower, but it remains down 57 ponies. But, can a lighter weight make up the difference?
We don’t know because the driver of this 2017 Camaro ZL1 didn’t really give the car its all when lining up against a Challenger Hellcat at the dragstrip. On both occasions, the driver launches the Camaro ZL1 incredibly soft. The video description notes the ZL1 is equipped with a manual transmission, so either the driver was being kind, or needs a little more practice.
The Challenger Hellcat features an automatic transmission and lays its power down to the rear wheels with ease. Both races end with the Challenger pulling away from the Camaro ZL1.
So, it’s not the race we expected, but grab a dose of the action yourself in the video above.

Okay so I’m not pulling for the Zl1 by any means but this guy sucks balls at launching. You can clearly see even when he beat the tree on the last race he STILL jacked the throttle up and bounced the damn car all the way to 2nd gear. Simply put let’s find someone that can drive and see a fair race.
I couldn’t agree with you more. The ZL1 driver has obviously never raced before. At the very least not much. Inexperience shows the most on launch which he got dusted on every single time. Drag racing is more than a fast car driving straight.
Why would you not do automatic for both or manual for both? This drag race just sucks in general. And I could show that guy how to shift because he sucks
That guy simply can not drive. I have a zl1. And I know for sure that it a hell of lot better that that. Like 11.22 at 130 MPh quarter mile.
Either get someone who can drive or rotate the drivers to get even results.
I would love to see lap times at Mid Ohio to show the true nature of the Camaro.
Hey that Demon its 800 hp and you use a 360 hp Camaro that’s not fair. Why you don’t do that why the Camaro ZLI yenco, with the same 800 hp? This model used in this video ots a basic Camaro ZLI, the yenco its has a 6.8L motor wit a 1.2L bi-turbo system. Next time do a fair race.
What the hell are you talking about lmao
Every time I look forward to seeing these races, but it always a Manual vs. Auto. Just pick one and race.
Would you expect anything less from a HEMI?
But these bowtie fanboys will still be going on about how Chevy dominates the dragstrips lmao.
How was this guy allowed to race in the first place, he barely knows how to drive
