Shelby F-150 Super Snake Is Ford’s Segment Of One

Chevrolet hasn’t really embraced the performance truck segment, but it has given off-road enthusiasts the Colorado ZR2. The brand will call that truck a “segment of one” vehicle. Well, since it can outmaneuver the F-150 Raptor, we’ll give it that. But, the Shelby F-150 Super Snake? It’s all alone in the Chevrolet vs Ford rivalry.

While the Silverado musters on, Ford is busy expanding its F-150 portfolio and has tapped Shelby to really give the full-size pickup truck legs. The Shelby F-150 Super Snake takes Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 engine and slaps a supercharger on for 750 horsepower. Ford has also improved the suspension and handling, though those details haven’t been disclosed, according to Ford Authority.

It looks properly menacing, too. While we think the Silverado is a handsome truck, no doubt, there’s no denying the Shelby Super Snake is a badass looking pickup truck.

Shelby plans for 150 examples this year with a $96,880 price tag. That’s a lot of money, but you can’t take $100,000 and buy a performance track at a General Motors dealership, now can you?

  1. And STILL we see no Silverado SS or Colorado ZQ8.

  2. I remember an issue of hotrod magazine from 2009 or so featuring a blue Silverado SS concept. It had a 6 speed manual and an LS7. Keeping tabs on it, GM said it wouldn’t build it for real because it wouldn’t sell. Just like GM said about the Ford Raptor, or the Ecodiesel Rams. Yet here they are. What do we get from GM? Some real-people-not-actors commercial featuring 5 “special edition” silverados. Each no more impressive than a standard one, save for some kind of appearance package. GM best start hiring people that are passionate about cars instead of people who are passionate about bottom line profit and not long term loyalty. Make a Cruze ss to fight the focus st. Make a Silverado that can compete with the rebel and the raptor. Draw some people into showrooms that wouldn’t otherwise look at a Chevy.

    1. Oh, no, another triggered person about the Real People, Not Actors commercials…Which just so happen to be one of the most successful ad campaigns ever (of course Ford fanboys and other competitors don’t seem to like that).

A commercial does not have anything to do engineering or product development. Please educate yourself…Triggered lil’ one. I do agree GM needs to be more passionate, not Toyota-like.

  3. But when it comes to all around performance, it’s no Lightning…

  4. Loose about 2000lbs, drop the crew cab, and offer a manual option and I’ll be amused. Right now, as it stands; this truck is just STUPID.

  5. What ever happened with the Cheyenne pickup?

  6. GM Kinda destroyed the performance truck segment with the GMC Sonoma Typhoon with a 0-60 that the F-150 Lightening and RAM SRT-10 never touched even though they came a decade later.
Just another example of them dominating full size trucks with their mid size range and doing it WAY cheaper. If you want a fun truck buy a midsize GM if you want a work truck buys a fullsize GM. If you think a truck will finally make the guys at work respect you and it has to be flashy and expensive… dont buy a GM.

  7. Let’s not kid ourselves here First this is not a Ford it is a real Shelby built in Vegas.

Second this is a truck for the Shelby collector with only production of 150 models. If this were a Ford lighting for $98k the would not even move 150 units. So don’t try to think this would transfer to Chevy so easy.

I would love a Sport version of the Chevy more than anyone here but I know the odds are not likely to happen as the sport models just do not sell like a 4×4 model hence all the cheap to build black special editions. The bottom line on them is people buy them and they make money.

I would not be shocked if the standard cab is even more limited in the next model and the shot bed may even go away. Let’s face it just look around and how many do you see.

The ZQ8 just had declining sales.

Also the Syclone and Typhoon sold in very small numbers and might have broke even by raiding the parts bin.

As for image product GM will look to doing them but in ways they only make money. The ZR2 is the first example of this. We may see this on the next full size. I may not be a Raptor but it may be a more affordable truck with more daily driving ability. The new Disc shock can provide this like on the ZR2.

You all thing GM is struggling and Ford is dominating well just look at the stock prices. GM may not be moving much but they are 3 times the value of Ford at $36 a share vs $11 a share. Image trucks and military grade aluminium don’t mean S#%t yo investors unless the make money.

Lincoln tried trucks and failed twice. The Ranger is late and will only be a Crew Shot Bed.

Ford has failed to cut cost and raise atp like GM hence the $11 stock price. Hhr have greater debt ratio too and less money to pay for it.

Well while not alway exciting we will get find cool things but they will be profit making ventures.

Sorry but today cool card alone are no longer enough.

I hate saying this but it us just the way it is.
