RPM Motorsports’ 2017 Camaro ZL1 Is First To Break Into The 9s: Video

This 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had only been driven 60 miles when RPM Motorsports decided to prep it for the strip with drag radials and some nitrous. The result was a 9.98 second pass at 140 miles per hour, making this ZL1 — dubbed Frostbite — the first 2017 ZL1 to break into the nines.

It’s worthy of noting that this ZL1 is equipped with the newly-developed 10-speed automatic (10L90), which enabled lightning-fast shifts.

From what we could tell, Frostbite is certainly capable of an even quicker pass, seeing as how it didn’t launch as hard as it could have. That said, a softer launch was probably for the better, as the car didn’t even have 100 miles on the dash.

This video leads us to wonder how soon it’ll be until a ZL1 can best the claimed 9.65-second quarter-mile run of the Dodge Challenger Demon. We’ll have to wait and see, but for now we can at least enjoy watching this impressive run.
