The Mazda RX-7 is kind of a Japanese motoring icon. Not only did it take on the idea of a Japanese sports car, but it also employed the automaker’s famed rotary engine. Fans live and die by the powerplant.
So, we’re unsure how some will feel about this particular RX-7 because it’s using GM power. Specifically, it’s running a 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine from a Buick Grand National. How the engine got there? Who knows.
The 1987 RX-7 is currently for sale on Kijiji and it’s in rough shape. However, there’s potential, that’s for sure. The seller states he inherited the RX-7 two years ago. Since then, it seems to have sat after the ignition keys went missing. If anything, this could be an excellent parts vehicle, considering the 3.8-liter turbo V6 isn’t exactly a common engine.
Or, maybe it could be a Buick-powered drift missile one day with a little more love. The possibilities are kind of endless. But there’s no denying Grand National and RX-7 fans may have mixed emotions about this swap.
