Remember the original Fisker Karma? Well, it’s coming back, except it’s not a Fisker anymore. Risen from the ashes as “Karma Automotive” with plenty of Chinese capital from owner Wanxiang, the Karma Revero will be the first plug-in hybrid from the company. And it’s sticking with a General Motors-sourced engine when it launches this month.
Specifically, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine from GM will be under the hood, paired with a 21.4 kWh battery pack. That’s upgraded from the old Fisker’s 20.4 kWh unit, and the onboard charger has been bumped from 3.3 kW to 6.6 kW. DC fast charging is also available. Power from the gasoline engine alone sits at 260 horsepower.
Inside EVs reports the Karma Revero will launch a bit behind schedule this month, following the automaker’s first-ever ad spot. The ad debuted during the 2017 U.S. Open Polo Championship. Karma is also a sponsor of the event.
Karma is hoping to sell 900 Reveros this year, an ambitious goal after noting just 2,000 Fisker Karmas were sold during its entire life. Can Karma swing at Tesla and even General Motors? We’ll soon see.
