There’s a bit of conventional wisdom that goes: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
We had this in mind as we observed Jalopnik‘s “Nice Price or Crack Pipe” article last month featuring a 2006 Pontiac GTO Lingenfelter Revenge Edition for $26,995, with just 19k miles on the odometer. (Click here to see the listing)
That car, according to dealership TSJ Autobrokers, was #2 of the fifteen total cars made. But as it turns out, there’s another dealership out there that also claims to be selling GTO Revenge Edition #2 (link), with a more believable price tag of $49,991. Lending some credibility to the latter dealer is the fact that they included a photo of the Lingenfelter series badge in the listing, while the former did not.
That said, TSJ Autobrokers did snap a pic of a Revenge “Serial No. 002” plaque on the dash.
But can we truly believe that any dealership would sell one of fifteen Lingenfelter Revenge Edition GTOs for $27k while there’s another dealer listing asking for close to $50k? And while the Jalopnik staff themselves found an example on Craigslist with an asking price of $45k? One of those three price tags seems out of whack.
So, we put it to you: Is this $27k Pontiac GTO truly the Lingenfelter Revenge Edition it claims to be? Or is someone trying to pull a fast one on a poor, unsuspecting buyer?

Would not Lingenfelter have all the VIN #’s of these vehicles to prove their authenticity? I sure would think so, especially with the credentials of Ken Lingenfelter and his company!
How does a 2006 model have a build date of June ’08? This example is also lacking the Lingenfelter logo on the plaque, unlike that of the other #2. Is it possible that this is just any old auto trans GTO, that rolled into Revenge for the body enhancements and performance upgrades?
i have #06 of the 15 Lingenfelter GTO’s ( with documents) my build date plate is dated 3-12-08 why would #02 have a later build date than #06 ? interesting
Could be because Lingenfelter could be numbers orders when they were submitted/placed, rather than when they were built.
I realize this is an old post but the lingenfelter #002 is in Delaware with 4k miles. Bright red, red interior, 6 sp with all the placks. This is definitely a fake!
