Corvette Racing Qualifies 6th, 8th In GTLM At COTA

Corvette Racing has qualified sixth and eighth in GTLM for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown at Circuit of The Americas.

The faster of the two Corvette C7.Rs was the No. 3 car of Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, with Magnussen turning in a fastest lap of 2:03.026. The No. 4 C7.R of Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin was about half a second out with a time of 2:03.594, while the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR split the two ‘Vettes with a time of 2:03.085.

“Sixth is nothing to celebrate but the gap to the front is a lot less than what I feared we would be looking at here,” Magnussen said. “Obviously it’s going to be a super-close race. All the cars are getting lap times in different places. But at the end, everyone is about the same. For the race it should be interesting. Strategy will play a large role. I need to do my very best to hand over Antonio a 100 percent-ready race car. ”

The pole-sitter for Saturday’s race is BWM Team RLL’s John Edwards, who set a fast lap of 2:02.833 to put the No. 24 BMW M6 GTLM in the top spot for the first time. Giancarlo Fisichella was second in the Ferrari 488 GTE after posting a very close time of 2:02.865, while Edwards’ BMW teammate Alexander Sims was third in the No. 25 BMW with a lap of 2:02.990. The No. 66 and No. 67 Ford GT entries of Ryan Briscoe and Dirk Mueller rounded out the top five with laps of 2:03.014 and 2:03.023, respectively.

The Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown from COTA will go green on Saturday, May 6th at 2:35 p.m. EDT. Click here for full results from qualifying.
