The No. 3 Corvette C7.R suffered a fire during practice at Circuit of the Americas Thursday – the third time the C7.R has caught fire so far this year.
According to Racer, the fire started at the rear of the No. 3 C7.R before it was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire was sourced back to a loose fuel line, which is a similar problem to the leaky fuel injector line that caused the No. 4 C7.R to go up in flames at the Roar Before the 24 in January.
“A small leak at a fuel line connection in the No. 3 Corvette resulted in a brief fire that quickly was extinguished,” a team representative told Racer in an interview. “Corvette Racing expects to return for FP3 tomorrow morning.”
This is the third fire for Corvette Racing this season, but the second time the No. 3 car has caught fire. The Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia-driven entry previously caught fire while refueling during practice for the 12 Hours of Sebring in January.
Practice 3 will kick off today at 9:55 a.m. EDT, or 8:55 local time in Austin, Texas.
