The Chevrolet Silverado HD was recently revamped with an all-new, 6.6-liter L5P Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine, but new spy photos show additional changes may be coming.
The photos show the front end of what is clearly a 2017 Silverado HD masked in cladding. While it originally seemed Chevy was testing updated gasoline engines, another spy photographer has since pointed out there diesel exhaust fluid tank under the passenger-side door. That means this truck is running a diesel engine.
Now, it’s speculated Chevrolet could be testing the Silverado HD with the air inlets closed to see how the truck performs. Although, that could be entirely incorrect and the engine is simply undergoing additional testing. Chevy doesn’t want us to see something regarding the front end, but we’re not entirely sure what it is.
The latest update makes the Silverado HD competitive with Ford and Ram by offering 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. During our quick spin, we found the truck to be plenty powerful but look forward to spending more time with the truck this year to get a better read.

Looks like the old style DEF tank though, not the new one.
That’s a T1 HD Mule. The trailer hitch nose is different!
maybe it has a DEF tank so you THINK it’s a diesel!
Venturi exhaust also. Could be part of the camouflage as well.
As for the power of the new 6.6 L5P, It put out the most power at rear wheel on the Dyno ,thin Ford and Ram !! Just Check out the test of Lux 3/4 ton diesel trucks, on Pickuptrucks.com
