Chevy Impala Sales Flop 61 Percent To 3,213 Units In April 2017

Cumulative Chevrolet Impala sales decreased in the United States and in Canada during April 2017.

Chevrolet Impala deliveries in the United States totaled 3,213 units in April 2017, a decrease of 61 percent compared to 8,249 units sold in April 2016. In the first four months of 2017, sales of the full-size sedan decreased 35 percent to 25,235 units.

Chevrolet Impala Sales – April 2017 – Canada

In Canada, Impala sales decreased 4.9 percent to 427 units in April 2017. In the first four months of the year, Impala sales increased 15.2 percent to 1,102 units in Canada.

The GM Authority Take

The ongoing market shift towards crossovers and SUVs continued to take its toll on Impala sales volume in April, as was also the case in the first quarter of the year. What’s more, comments by GM’s CEO Mary Barra have put into question whether the Impala will live on past the current model, as the current-generation Chevrolet Malibu has grown to be quite close in size to the Impala, which is produced at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

  1. Well if they would actually make more of these cars and have them in stock it could help. I went to 4 Chevy dealers and saw but one new Impala. They had hundreds of Malibu’s. The Impala is a roomier nicer driving car with a V6 and a larger trunk. The Malibu is reasonably sized but the 1.5T with stop/start is a turn off and Chevy restricts the 2.0T to the pricy 32K Premier. Make more damn Impala’s GM and advertise them.

    I will be upset beyond belief if they discontinue this car. Ford is already abandoning the Taurus which should help Impala sales a bit. If people actually drove this car they would buy it. It’s that good!

  2. Joe is correct.

    Dealer stock of this car is extremely low. GM ran a 20% off deal last month and blew them all of the lot. Local dealer has zero and historically has always had at least a few.

  3. 4 Impalas, no LTZ’s and 54 Malibus at mine and it’s been that way for months. Wife’s ’15 LTZ is a very nice car.
    She wouldn’t even consider a Malibu for the reasons listed above.

  4. I believe that if GM switched to rear wheel drive with all wheel drive as an option and a V8 and a diesel also be offered , sales would go up .Remember the SS will be gone in 2017 .

  5. This is GM forgotten vehicle GM doesn’t even show it in its ad’s along with the dealers. The Impala has had some good awards that are not being used in ad’s to sell it. My dealer has one on his lot. A dealer in Texas I know has all LTZ’s loaded some almost $40,000. To me it looks like GM and its dealers are not even trying to sell them. I have a 2015 and love it.
    Something is wrong with GM P/R.

  6. Impala is one of the best cars on the road and won a bunch of awards.
    Sure, SUVs are currently popular, but GM leadership isn’t doing enough to promote the product. This is just one of many decisions that makes me question the competency of GM leadership. The media loves this team in a bandwagon sort of way for shaking things up but, in general, we are witnessing a shrinking company focused on copying Ford instead of developing unique solutions.

  7. Actually this segment is dying.

    Fwd large sedans are not selling much under any brand. Add to this the Impala is only a limited segment car not really do,d globally.

    Finally this is a very old platform and I expect it will die in a year or two.

    It is a shame as this is a very hood car but at this price point and size most peopke are just going to the CUV segment.

    The car is just in the wrong segment at the wrong time in auto history. Too bad they did not have this one 16 years ago.

    Adding more cars yo dealer inventories would likely end with a dealer adding big incentives to unload it. They don’t stock them for a reason.

  8. I read an article from Jalopnics ( spelling ? ) recently that the Impala would not be replaced after this edition runs its course . I have never driven either car bit I do prefer the looks of the Impala . It really seems as if GM will not replace it as the Malibu sells better and is almost the same size . And I see no ads for the Impala either , not even lease deals or 0% financing . It’s like GM doesn’t want the buying public to even know it exists .
    Even seeing one on the road you get whiplash wondering what it was you just saw .

  9. Next gen Impala have to be RWD with AWD as an option. Ride on the Alpha 2 as the successor of the CTS. As the SS will stop this year Chevrolet will need a sport sedan, and the next Impala could be the answer with the LT4 or LT5 with 650hp or more.
    under the hood Chevrolet should put the 2.0, 3.6 V6 and and V8 but also a diesel engine. Chevrolet needs this car.
    So, Chevrolet give birth to what could be the awesome Impala ever.

  11. I don’t see the advantages of putting your stuff behind the back seat rather than in the trunk.
    Does the higher seating position make it easier to text while driving?
    Is the fairer sex more easily swayed by marketing?

  14. Haven’t you noticed how most of the newer cars keep getting taller and taller? Which means that if you own an older car, it’s nearly impossible to see around newer cars when you’re trying to back out of a parking space in a shopping center, which also means that if you own a crossover, you don’t usually have that problem.
