The GM Authority Take
The cumulative sales performance of the Cruze family in the first four months of 2017 is highly impressive given that it comes at a time when customers are favoring crossover utility vehicles over other types of vehicles, like sedans. Though we would like to believe that the desirability of the all-new, second-generation Cruze is the reason for the sales growth seen in March and April, which bucks the trend of crossovers gaining sales at the expense of sedans and hatchbacks, it’s also possible that the increase in Cruze deliveries could be caused by a growth in fleet sales.
The GM Lordstown plant where the Cruze sedan is assembled saw its third production shift cut in January and General Motors is preparing to make further production cuts at the the facility in July, which might be delayed. The moves demonstrate that the automaker is not confident about the future sales volume in the U.S. compact car segment in which the Cruze competes, thereby showing that the sales gains seen in recent months will not go on forever. However, the latest news has GM delaying the production slowdown, hinting that the Cruze might be doing better than the rest of the segment.
About Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet completely overhauled the Cruze sedan for the 2016 model year, marking the second generation of the nameplate. For the subsequent 2017 model year, Chevy gave the Cruze sedan several changes and updates and also launched the five-door Cruze hatch, which better positions the vehicle family against segment rivals from Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Honda.

Comments
Chevy Cruze sales should continue to increase especially if Chevrolet starts a new commercial with real people emphasizing how the 2017 Cruze equipped with the optional new LH7 1.6L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo-diesel is the most fuel efficient non-hybrid vehicle in the United States.
Soooo where are the people saying crossovers are killing compacts? Fuzzy journalism. Compacts will be here for a long, long time, and when gas spikes again these will sell like hotcakes. Even 4 cylinder compact crossovers don’t get the mileage these things do. Writing these things off prematurely is goofy, and as we saw in April, they’re still a healthy segment.
How about the sells of the corola, civic, focus, golf and Hyundai compact car???
It’s about time this thing started moving after a lackluster launch. I’m glad it’s doing better because it is a really good car.
The new cruze is a good car un a tough segment ans did +50% sales rise, and peoples like shift to SUV. So, the cruze sales ate those of the competition. We have to compare with the competition.
