Cadillac Racing’s Michael Cooper and Jordan Taylor walked away from this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge double-header with a pair of third-place finishes.
This weekend marked the first Pirelli World Challenge Sprint-X weekend of the year. Sprint-X is a sprint-race style format that entails a 60-minute race with a required pit stop and driver change. Due to the diver change, the Cadillac Racing ATS-V.R team brought on Cadillac DPi-V.R drivers Jordan and Ricky Taylor for the weekend, with Jordan pairing with Cooper and Ricky pairing with Johnny O’Connell.
The Taylor-Cooper pairing had a bit more luck than the O’ConnelL-Taylor duo this weekend. In the first race, Cooper’s ATS-V.R stalled on the grid, however quick work by the Cadillac crew had him out before the green flag dropped. He and Jordan then had to work their way to the front of the grid from the rear. Cooper handed driving duties over to Jordan at the pit window, with O’Connell coming in to hand the car over to Ricky shortly after. Jordan finished fifth overall and third in the Pro/Pro class, while O’Connell and Taylor were eighth overall and sixth in class.
The second race of the weekend saw Jordan start fourth on the grid based on the fastest lap from Saturday, while Ricky started 12th. Jordan got a strong start and passed a car into Turn 1 to take third while Ricky battled for position with a swarm of cars. A caution flew 20-minutes into the event before the mandatory pit-cycle happened about 35 minutes in. After the driver change, Cooper returned the ATS-V.R to third, while O’Connell experienced a flat and was forced to pit before finishing 12th. Cooper ultimately finished on the podium, giving the Cadillac team two podiums for the weekend.
