About Cadillac CT6

Based on a high-tech, modern and lightweight rear-drive architecture labeled as the Omega platform, the CT6 is the first Cadillac model ever to compete in the full-size luxury flagship sedan space that has been defined by such segment stalwarts as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8/S8, and Lexus LS.

  1. Despite the V8s becoming taboo to some.. I think that the CT6 would add on an additional 200 sales per month with the addition of a V8, even if LT1, and a VSeries model featuring the LT4. Truth is.. I see little need for GM to have developed a separate V8 engine for Cadillac when the LT series is quite possibly the best in the biz. If the TT V8 is a shared engine with Corvette.. then I can see a reason for it. But only if that engine is also shared with other Cadillac offerings, including the Escalade and min two CUVs

    1. Outside of V performance cars, the luxury market sees push-rod V8s as taboo… for some reason, regardless of how good of an engine the LT1 is.

As for the upcoming DOHC V-8, Cadillac needs to have a DOHC to compete with the boosted DOHC V8 engines from BMW, MBZ, and Audi, each of which has at least one such engine alongside a boosted DOHC V6.

And I imagine that this engine will be shared across the Cadillac portfolio (for longitudinally-setup cars) and the mid-engined Vette, in some form or another.

  2. Sales look good but what about the Lincoln Continental? Isn’t it considered a CT6 fighter? According to Ford Authority currently it’s outselling the Caddy at 4,200 YTD..

    1. The continental is an XTS “fighter” in configuration, price, demographics, and any other metric. The CT6 is in an entirely different (higher) class.

No one cross shopping the German full size sedans is even looking at anything from Lincoln. But they are shopping the CT6. Have spoken to two A8 owners who have bought the CT6.

      1. The XTS and Conti are absolutely direct competition. However, I feel that all big American luxury sedans will be cross-shopped, be it the Conti, XTS, CT6, MKZ or LaCrosse; if someone want’s “big” American luxury, they’re going to look at all of those. And, there is a whole subsection of purchasers that will only consider American when purchasing their luxury vehicle. As to Audi A8 owners wanting a CT6, surprising and yet not surprising. The profiles look very similar, and the A8 is pretty dated, however a new model is coming next year, I believe. A8 is a tier above the CT6 in costs, however. I’d say CT6 is a market below A8 and the rest of the “competitors” posted in this article, so it should be selling better, on price alone. It’s more E-Class/5 series, in my opinion. Put those numbers up, and let’s see how’s it doing.

  3. It would be interesting to see what trim level is selling the best . In this heavy SUV market the numbers are respectable and on par with JDN’s vision of Cadillac being an exclusive marque .

  4. If you put a V-8 in a Corvette why not put it into a Cadillac so you can compete with the German luxury cars??

    1. GM could easily put the 5.3L Ecotec into both the CT6 and the XTS and achieve very similar, if not better fuel economy numbers.
