Being the fastest, most powerful production Cadillac vehicle ever puts the Cadillac CTS-V on quite the pedestal as a representation of everything that the new Cadillac stands for. Luckily, the CTS-V is quite comfortable in its own skin, and it’s about to be even more so for the 2018 model year, for which it’s getting some minor changes and updates.
On the outside, the 2018 CTS-V deletes two colors while adding two new ones:
Deleted Colors:
- Radiant Silver Metallic
- Stellar Black Metallic
New Colors:
- Satin Steel Metallic
- Vector Blue Metallic
What’s more, the ultra high-performance luxury sedan gets rid of the LPO/accessory-level glovebox-mounted CD drive as well as the sweet-looking CTS-V Carbon Black Package.
Finally, the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V gets the all-new CUE version 3 infotainment system. Representing the third generation of CUE (known as CUE 3, for short), the new system introduces a completely redesigned user experience and new features like driver profiles, an all-new navigation app, and a summary screen. In the 2018 CTS-V, CUE version 3 is available in one flavor — RPO code IOT, which replaces the second-gen IO6 system and includes embedded navigation.
The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.
For the U.S. and Canadian markets, the 2018 Cadillac CTS is assembled by GM U.S.A. at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA.

I believe that GM should spread Cadillacs 3.0TT from the CT-6 throughout it’s entire car line up in order for it’s cars to better compete with Audi, MB and BMW cars. The 3.6TT in the CTS V-Sport should of been replace by the 3.0TT with an updated 8-speed to improve efficiency.
The ATS should been given a detuned version of the 3.0TT to become the ATS V-Sport with an updated 8-speed across the board. Now that would’ve given Cadillac a competitive edge along with the updated CUE 3. There should’ve been an interior upgrade across board as well.
Note the XTS and the XT5 should’ve also have benefited from this engine as well along with an updated 8-speed.
I agree wholeheartedly, but don’t think we’ll see any of these changes for the current generations of CTS or ATS. The new ones will likely see a much more aggressive rollout and update cadence than the current models… at least that’s what I’m hoping.
That said, it’s mind-boggling why such great engines as the 3.0L TT LGW have not made their way across the entire Cadillac portfolio.
I too wish to see the 3.0T become available beyond the CT6! Since Cadillac is refusing to offer a V8 option below the CTS-V, the least they could do is offer the 3.0T as a mid-range engine option for the CTS. And perhaps offer it as a V-Sport engine option on the ATS. The 3.6L should be best served as the base engine in the CTS and CT6! At least drop the 2.0T from the CT6 when (if) the 4.2 V8 hits the market!
XTS and XT5 would not benefit from the 8 speed transmission, they are for RWD platforms. Perhaps the new 9 speed FWD Transmission would do. The RWD based platforms Im sure will also see the 10 Speed trickle down.
Does it really matter given that Cadillac artificially limits production of the CTS-V to under 2,000 units per model year.
Cadillac needs to bring back it’s coupe to the V line up
I currently own a V coupe and if Cadillac wants me and others to buy new V models add the coupe or I and others will look to something else in the future
They have a V Coupe — it’s an ATS and it comes in manual and automatic transmissions.
Yes, I own a 2012 V Coupe in Black Diamond and I still think it’s one of the best looking vehicles ever made by Cadillac.
It would be interesting to see them spin out a V coupe iteration of the current CTS.
Glad to see a somewhat different color being offered other than just grays and blacks. I think it’s a safe assumption that people that buy these cars want to stand out!
I agree, but silver should always be available. I think that it’s a mistake to drop that color, even for a year. I had to settle for pewter for my ’01 Camaro SS, and it was nice, but I really wanted silver…
I grew up around Cadillacs that’s what my father brought for many many years. Update to now. I was in the market for s new car and the CTS is what I was interested in. I was so disappointed. It seem to me they are no only smaller the quality of the car is no longer there. I purchase the Geniess, comfortable, hp is important to me and more room they the CTS. Everything that is standard in my car would be at extra cost with the Caddy. So So happy I went with the Geniess.
What’s a Genesis?
Oh, right, a no-name wannabe luxury brand.
See, Cadillac runs with the big boys like Mercedes and BMW… on name, prestige, quality, vehicle driving dynamics… and “Genesis” is a rung or two below. The point is that you could not afford a CTS, so you went with the more affordable option that is an inferior product.
It has all been done before: like Lexus 20 years ago, Genesis will make standard all the features others are offering as an option, so as to give you a “value” proposition, because no one is buying their cars and they want to build a name and a customer base. Then a decade or two later, if/when they get popular enough and gain traction in the marketplace, they’ll start nickel and diming you for features
But if you want to say that a Genesis sedan is better than a Cadillac sedan, please go back and drive the Cadillac.
A CTS with the 3.6 is much better than anything from Genesis. And that’s not to say anything about the CTS V-Sport or CTS-V.
My suggestion: save up some money next time, and get yourself a big boy luxury car from Cadillac or any of the German brands… Mr. Genesis.
As far as I’m concerned the CTSV coupe was the best in model options
I might be bias here because I own one but to each is their own when it comes to choice which model a person prefers
Even the new cts sedan with awd and the 2.0l turbo is actually more entertaining than the 3.6 IMO
but to compare the upgraded version of a Hyundai to a caddy is kind of ridiculous
You just spanked the Genesis guy!
You mean, cadillac would like to be running with the German Big Boys.
In reality, they are not.
Unrefined engines and drive trains, unreliable, zero resale value, zero prestige, cheap plastic interiors, dated designs, bad build quality.
All the products are sub-par, and the gm bean counters will make sure the products will always be sub-par.
They left europe for a good reason.
They got spanked by the Germans every time, and now just gave up.
The Chinese are used to cheap plastic crap, so cadillac fits right in.
Who couldn’t even spell the name of his car correctly. . .
You guys…
