Chevrolet has released a multitude of special editions in the past couple of years as it continues to segment the market for consumers and its vehicles, but the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST is one that actually feels pretty special.
The brand took the wraps off the Tahoe RST, which stands for Rally Sport Truck, with the intention of creating a bit of buzz for those looking for added performance from a full-size, body-on-frame sport utility vehicle. While the performance credentials sound good, we’re here to ask if the design is doing it for you in today’s Hot or Not.
The overall design add-ons are said to be inspired by current aftermarket trends, as Chevrolet looks to keep those aftermarket dollars in house. Body-color trim work, blacked out bowtie badges and massive 22-inch wheels exclusive to the Tahoe RST are the major additions here. We think it does enough to look special without overdoing it, but we’d like a little more flair from it overall. Maybe a splash of red to coordinate with the Brembo brakes would do it some good.
For those looking for a sleeper SUV, this will likely be your vehicle of choice, though. With subdued looks and plenty of power coming from the (optional) 6.2-liter L86 V8 engine, there’s a lot to love with the Tahoe RST.
So, what say you? Is the 2018 Tahoe RST a looker, or a loser? Vote in our poll below.

I am excited about the engine, transmission, and shocks. I don’t want over sized wheels. I want to replace my 2005 Z71 Tahoe soon and have been waiting for a 6.2 liter option or even a diesel. Make the engine, transmission, and shocks an option for any Tahoe. I actually use mine off road and need tires with some side wall.
Same here how about going back to basics back to trucks. Sport UTILITY.
I like all models of the Chevy Tahoe, BUT they are all too expensive. That is why I am waiting for the 2018 Traverse to arrive in showrooms.
I agree with Brent. Add the options we want on both the Sub and the Tahoe. It should be the buyers choice, not special addition frills….
I like the appearance of the optional gloss black wheels that are already available better than what is pictured. I like the Tahoe, will likely buy another, but the postage stamp size sunroof is a bit of a disappointmen in that price range. I would also like to see a performance model ride lower to the ground. The police version rides lower, looks hot, and this is with only hubcaps!!
Absolutely correct Pete, the police version has a mean looking stance to it. Lower the ride height and can those 22in. wheels, less is more!!
All the Tahoe needs is a diesel option.
Give this truck Cadillac Super Cruise and they’d be adding additional capacity in Arlington. Half of the executives at my company drive loaded up Tahoes; they could afford anything but choose these (no, not Escalades). Give the Tahoe options and they will sell. Pad the net margins even more GM (and give us a High Country already!) .
The new Tahoe package is OK but I think the current trim on the Tahoe is fine. First off I’m not a fan of the black wheels or black trim especially blacked out Bow Ties. I have been a Chevy Guy all my life, Bow Ties should be Gold. I also do not like wheels any bigger than 20″. A truck needs some side wall in it’s tires. I really don’t think there are many people looking for a performance Tahoe. GM should be looking at a performance package for the Malibu, come on all you can get a Malibu in is 4 cylinder. At lease put a V6 in it. Or even better how about a Malibu coupe. I also hate FWD but I guess there isn’t much hope of ever getting a affordable RWD sedan. As most people know the $49,000 Chevy SS didn’t work out so well. The Malibu with a V8 or at lease a performance V6 would have sold much better for around 30 K plus. Even better in a coupe.
GM already made a performance coupe with a V8, rear wheel drive, it was the Chevy SS, and the only reason they didn’t sell more was that Chevy didn’t market it at all. Price was on the high side but considering how the SS was equipped it was still a steal at $49,000 (LS-3, stick, magnetic shocks ect.) Now with the final batch of the SS’s reaching the US, GM has done it again. Killed another car that was too good……..Holden’s from China or Germany-not good!
Tahoe are to expensive for that price you should have all the options you want like back in the day when you order it from the factory
Love it back to the square look
Not hot. Go back to basics for an SUV. I like my 2010 and previous models better. Make it on a truck frame for outdoors activities instead of a car and get rid of the ugly rims. I have off road tires on mine. It looks like they are mostly made for wedding and proms now instead of a functional vehicle to do heavy duty fun outdoors activities. I’m buying a truck next time around or Ford if no one can make a decent SUV.
And bring back the large mirrors! Car mirrors on an SUV does not work well!
Looks like a great alternative choice to the 2018 Traverse or Enclave to replace my aging 2010 Acadia. New Acadia way too small and overpriced for what it is. Is the RST with 6.2 going to have the Obama start/stop mandatory? I really do not want that, makes vehicles look like death traps if you are about to be rear ended when stopped at traffic light!!!
Performance should not have to come with the price of Bling. Let people choose there vehicles by there driving requirements and not by option packages.
Nice, but at what price….Denali land….$80,000 plus? If GM stops being stubborn and brings us back the Trailblazer, or some form of it, we would have the right size platform to tweak with performance goodies. A small high output V8 would give us an updated SS.
Those monstrous 22″ wheels are over kill. I don’t find the appearance all that special enough but that I guess adds to the sleeper look. Hope GM steps up and fixes the issues with the 8 speed transmission.
Price is ridiculous you can buy a house here in Arkansas for the price of a new Tahoe and it looks identical to an escalade people need large suvs for kids and pulling boats and campers something rugged and durable something that will last what happened to like a rock… More like like a pos that you can’t afford to work on dealerships charge over 100 dollars an hour for labor Americans can’t keep up
I’ve been waffling back and forth between the Tahoe and Yukon Denali (looking for a used, 1 yr old model) and have been leaning toward the GMC simply for the 6.2 motor. I’ve had a 2010 Tahoe LTZ and currently own a 2011 Avalanche LTZ, both with the 5.3. They’re gutless. Now there is a 6.2 available in a Tahoe. Price out a 2017 Tahoe Premier and it’s $74,000!!!!! You can get a one year old Yukon Denali optioned to the gills for $50,000….I just can’t get over the price of these today!!! SMH.
Why no VIA-type version?
I won’t pay for 10 MPG – and why need the complexity of a 10-speed transmission for very limited MPG results?
Please, if you continue to make truck-based SUVs, just give me the option of lithium battery packs between
the frame rails and a plug-in option!
Voltec technology sits on the shelves and needs to be put into rigs like these.
How about a supercharged version for cops and bureaus
