Hennessey’s ‘Exorcist’ Camaro ZL1 Plies Its Holy 1,000 HP In A New Teaser: Video

With all the craze surrounding the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon (which is kind of sorta banned by the NHRA in some circumstances), Hennessey Performance Engineering has come up with a non-COPO alternative for bowtie fans, playfully named the “Exorcist” Camaro ZL1.
In hopes of subduing the Demon, HPE has nearly doubled the power output of the ZL1, bringing it up to 1,000 horsepower at the crank. Hennessey claims that The Exorcist is capable of sprinting to 60 in under 3 seconds and running the quarter-mile in less than 10. By comparison, the Demon is said to have an astounding 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds, and will reportedly rocket through the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds.
While the performance figures are very similar, there’s one key difference between the two: the Demon utilizes an AWD system while the Camaro has a conventional RWD configuration. (Correction: when this article was written it was believed that the Demon would be AWD, it isn’t) We expect the Demon to have a slight edge off the line (thanks to its Nitto slicks), but can the ZL1 get the win down a quarter-mile stretch? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
For the time being, go ahead and enjoy the minute-long “Exorcist” teaser video above.
