It’s time to give this obscure piece of Corvette and General Motors history a new home. This here is a 1980 Corvette America, based on a C3 Chevrolet Corvette, and it’s for sale.
We highlighted one of these four-door Corvettes previously, but this particular Corvette America is the one to own. Why? Because it is entirely original save for a few minor parts and pieces. And only five of these were ever produced. Why only five? Because they cost $35,000 back in the day. That’s over $100,000 in 2017 money.
GM explored the idea of a four-door Corvette by cutting a pair of regular C3 Corvettes in half and then stitching them back together to make room for the two extra doors. In all, it elongated the wheelbase by 30 inches.
The owner has shown the car off at various car shows for years and accumulated just 20,000 miles on the odometer. Now, he’s ready to part ways for the lofty sum of $275,000. It could be your next conversation piece because it’s sure to get a lot of attention.
