The GM Authority Take

Though the slight increase in U.S. LaCrosse deliveries in March is welcome, it’s still a blip compared to the sales volume of the second-generation vehicle. And given that the launch of the all-new 2017 LaCrosse has been complete since the latter part of 2016, we attribute the decrease in LaCrosse deliveries in the first quarter of 2017 to the ongoing shift in the consumer behavior dynamics. Specifically, consumers are continuing to favor crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) at the expense of sedans such as the LaCrosse.

Whether this trend is permanent or temporary is anyone’s guess at this point, but the third-gen LaCrosse — which is a fine vehicle — will likely continue to sell in lower volumes compared to its predecessor, which existed during a time when sedan sales were high compared to the levels seen today.
