Thanks to healthy sales of the nameplate, amid a portfolio made up of mostly sedans, Cadillac confirmed it wouldn’t send the XTS sedan to the guillotine just yet, as it was originally slated to depart this world after 2019.
Now, the XTS lives to see another day and spy shots taken in Chicago, Illinois, give us another look at what to expect from its refresh. The 2018 Cadillac XTS will largely remain the same, but the refresh will likely pull the model more in line with current Cadillac sedans’ design motif. We’d expect more vertical headlamps and added LED running lights up front, like the CT6 and CTS sedans.
The overall profile, though, is much the same, which keeps its decidedly front-wheel drive proportions, though, it appears Cadillac will fix the XTS with an all-chrome side badge, like many new Cadillac feature.
At the rear, design elements seem to look sharper and the rear deck looks to extend further than the current XTS sedan.
The 2018 Cadillac XTS will likely show face later this year before Cadillac kicks off its product assault in early 2018. The brand plans a new vehicle introduction every six months beginning in 2018 for two years, which will begin with the Cadillac XT4 crossover.

Cadillac badge on the fender. Safe to say that is a portfolio element now. Tough to comment on the front lights, since the pictures don’t look head on at them, but I think we will see the horizontal aspect from Escala. The LEDs look more horizontal than vertical in these shots and JDN did say every Cadillac moving forward would adopt aspects of the concept. The grill also looks more upright. It will be interesting to see.
Why not just do a new XTS based on the new Lacrosse?
Cuz it’s a Cadillac not a Buick
Cadillac needs to be markedly different from Buick and that also goes for platforms too IMO.
Look having separate platforms for every car or division would be a great idea but the reality that is just not possible. It would drive the cost of cars and trucks threw the roof.
Don’t believe me? Go look around the auto industry and look at how the other manufacturers are sharing platforms! But GM is the only company that gets killed for it, why is that?
Most manufacturere don’t share theri platform as much as you state. Lexus doesn’t share much of Toyota, nor Acura share much of Honda.
Yes they do. Honda’s Ridgeline shares a platform with the Pilot and Odyssey minivan The Camry, Avalon and Lexus ES all share a platform. The Acura ILX and Civic share a platform. Most all makes do this not just GM.
I think most folks are more interested in how the car looks and drives, me included.
Hasn’t GM done a lot of frame sharing in the past? Look at the ’57-’64 X frames.
They have done it for decades but for some reason people make a big deal about now.
If cadillac is changing their naming convention, then the XTS should have its name changed, too. From a distance , XTS looks like XT5 and vice-versa!
I think the XTS should have an actual name like the Escalade. Both cars are the closest things to the past, both cars do amazingly well for their respective segments and I bet both of these cars are the most hated by the current Cadillac (lack of) leadership.
Another great comment man. I’m wondering what name would fit XTS best, something slick.
I think a good name would be Viaggio (ve ahh joe) which mean to travel in Italian, and its kind of a stereotype that all the old Italian mobsters drove big Cadillac’s like that. Say it a couple times…. the Cadillac Viaggio, it some how sounds right.
Henry, love your comment on the leadership. Spot on!
You think Cadillac hates the Escalade? It’s the most important vehicle they have right now
First Caddy and yeah I’m old and maybe slowing down a little, but a lifelong car nut and I really love my white diamond XTS4 Platinum. The V6 power and somewhat fwd look doesn’t bother me at all. The Haldex awd is smooth, the interior is super and no mistaking it’s a Cadillac coming or going. Granted, the price was right on a mint low mile lease trade in.
First one, Joe? Enjoy it!
I still have a vivid memory of the first time I was in a Cadillac. I was a toddler. Parents doing title work at the dealership put me in the rear seat to contain me. I fell in love. Been in a Cadillac ever since. I’m no longer a youngster but the ATS service loaner I drove a few weeks ago was a fun ride!
Thanks Susan, Circumstances allowed me to experience “Corvette Fever” for nine years. Time marches on, I’m recovered now and experiencing the finer things at a slower pace. Always loved Cadillac and everyone should own at least one in his life. Can’t wait to road trip my XTS West to visit….
They should have kept the name of these as DTS for Deville Touring Sedan. They should also swap over to the newer LaCrosse 3.6 LGX engine which gets better MPG and is smoother and quieter than the the sometime gruff and raspy sounding LFX engine.
