Top Gear USA Is Dead, Top Gear America Is Happening Next

Remember Top Gear USA? It was a rough go overall, never achieving the success the original Clarkson, Hammond and May trio found with Top Gear. But, Americans are once again getting a Top Gear just for them.

Roadshow reports BBC America will launch Top Gear America later this year with three new hosts after The History Channel ran Top Gear USA for six seasons. That show ended last July.

Up for hosting duties are William Fichtner, actor and racing enthusiast, Antron Brown, three-time NHRA Top Fuel Division world champion, and Tom Ford, a British automotive journalist.

As for The Stig, one driver will be graced with the title for the new show as well and will wheel numerous machines around the show’s upcoming studio and track in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  1. I watched one Episode of the original USA TG it was so lame and forced. The hosts had to hammer home that they were “car guys” ‘Merica.
Top gear in a whole should be put out of its misery. After the big 3 left. Its over. They were the show.
So yeah, I can’t wait for Season 2 of Grand Tour.

  2. Scripted car shows are to real men what Justin Bieber is to real music–lame. I’ll take an old wore out VHS copy of Motor Week over today’s tomfoolery any day.

  3. Most people stopped watching Top Gear USA because they stopped talking about cars and this new show will suffer the same fate if they don’t keep it simple and just talk about cars (new, classic, future).

  4. I liked Adam, Rutledge and Tanner. But the show deviated so bad after season 2 and they were kinda robotic. I liked the season 1 finale when they went to Alaska.

“Did you write I love sheep on there?”

    “….. No”

I’m gonna miss those guys, but hopefully we get a good trio for this new installment. I like the idea of William Fichtner as host.

  5. Gramps,
    I hear you.
I’m a big fan of motorweek too. I like its nuts and bolts approach. But I enjoy watching Clarkson May and Hammond because I find them funny. Maybe not everyone does but my wife does too and that’s a huge plus. She could give a crap less about cars. But enjoys them.

  6. Original Top Gear was probably the most entertaining car show ever on TV. It was scripted-so what-it was entertaining. Clarkson, Hammond, and May just had that perfect chemistry to make it all work. My wife hated the show-said it was like the 3 Stooges with cars. I said “yes-what could be better?”

Top Gear with Letterman versus Leno.
Third host? Throw in an eye candy female that loves cars.

  7. I never understood why people watched top gear at all! Any of them!
