Shanghai OnStar Rolls Out Updated Mobile App

Shanghai OnStar has released a completely upgraded mobile application to house OnStar’s suite of connectivity services. Specifically, smart home integration, enhanced voiced interaction and “premium service” are no included with the OnStar app.

Premium service includes car maintenance, car insurance, roadside assistance, car inspection, license renewal and traffic violation inquiries as part of the latest connectivity features available with the application. But, those additions are on top of what OnStar has already offered, including a driving behavioral rating, car appraisal and other car management services.

Voice interaction has been upgraded thanks to Xiao O, OnStar’s voice recognition system that responds to natural language. Now, the OnStar app can check a car’s location, fuel, oil, mileage and tire pressure via voice command. The nifty feature does not, however, work with the latest smart home integration.

And speaking of the smart home integration, yes, the app may now be used to control household appliances using OnStar’s electronic fence with pre-set effective perimeters.

The app is available for download now for OnStar’s nearly 1 million active subscribers in China.
