We recently heard the exhaust note of the sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder LTG engine, when fitted with the 3-inch Hooker Blackheart-series cat-back exhaust. Now, let’s check out the Blackheart-series axle-back system.
We have no quips with the cat-back exhaust, and we certainly appreciate the boost in performance it offered with a recalibrated ECU: max gains of about 15 horsepower and 22 lb-ft of torque. As you’d expect, the 2.5-inch axle-back offers a bit less in terms of the performance boost, with max gains equaling around 10 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque.
But if you’re on a budget, the axle-back kit is a fair bit kinder to your wallet, costing $499.95 with mufflers, or $399.95 without. The cat-back system, meanwhile, comes in at $899.95 with mufflers, or $799.95 without. It also lets you keep the factory resonator, which some folks will undoubtedly count as a plus.
When it comes to which system sounds better, well, we’ll leave that up to you. Be sure to go back and give the Hooker Blackheart cat-back system a listen here before watching the video above, and then let us know which system you’d prefer to have on your Camaro in the comments section below.
