The GM Authority Take

The ongoing market shift towards crossovers and SUVs continued to take its toll on Impala sales volume in February, as was also the case in January. What’s more, recent comments by GM’s CEO Mary Barra have put into question whether the Impala will live on past the current generation, as the current-generation Chevrolet Malibu has grown to be quite close in size to the Impala, which is produced at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

  1. Too bad. It is one of GM’s best cars. Great looking and equipped very nicely.

    1. Yeah but the interior sucks. Look at that steering wheel for example. Yuk! I know there’s going to be people who say well its only a steering wheel but you know what? That and the dashboard are what you see 100% of the time you drive a vehicle so it matters.

  2. I like how it has proven non-turbo engines. The V-6 engine makes it real fun to drive.

  3. Friend of mine is head of the sales department at a Chevy dealer and he said he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Impala dropped. Notice how Malibu and Cruz keep getting a little bigger with each redesign? GM want’s the Buick LaCrosse to have that market to itself.

  4. when was the last time you saw a advertisement for a Chevy Impala ??????

    1. I remember the “Secret Agent” suited guy driving it while the ad was playing Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” in the background. I have rented the 2014 Impala and everyone in my family loved it!

  5. Next generation Impala should be RWD, based on the Alpha or upcoming A2 with a 6.2 V8

  6. The problem with the Impala, as with most new cars, is there is no “wow” factor with any of them, and I don’t mean wifi or the size of the touchscreen. If Dodge can have somewhat decent looking cars with the Charger and Challenger, why can’t GM.

    1. Not everyone wants a sportscar or a SUV. There are many sedan lovers. That is also why the Ford Fusions is a big seller.

      1. I don’t want a sportscar or an suv. My buddy bought a Ford Fusion, it is as exciting as the shopping carts at the grocery store.

    2. And the Impala, according to you, is not “somewhat decent looking”?

      Reply
      1. No, it isn’t to me. I don’t expect a return of the ’59 Impala, but the current Impala has the basic rounded shape with a few style lines on the side, same as most sedans, meh.
