C7-Based Genovation GXE To Sport Carbon Fiber Wheels

Genovation has earned itself more than a couple headlines since its C6 Corvette Z06-based GXE (Genovation Extreme Electric) debuted with 700 hp and 600 lb-ft of all electric torque. The vehicle has gone on to break records and prove the capability of electric power from its 44-kWh battery pack.

However, Genovation followed up its C6-based creation with its next project, a C7-based GXE. And it’s going to up the ante in all respects.

Specifically, Motor Authority reports the C7-based GXE will sport a set of carbon fiber wheels sourced from Carbon Revolutions in Australia. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Australian-based company currently supplies carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R and Ford GT.

Not only do these wheels bring significant reductions in weight at all four corners, but they also help with NVH levels, as if an electric car wasn’t quiet enough.

Power for the C7 GXE is claimed to be over 700 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque with a perfect, 50/50 weight distribution to boot.

However, this marvel of engineering comes with a serious price tag. Genovation will build 75 examples of the vehicle for an asking price of $750,000 each. That’s not chump change. Even if you’re interested in a C6-based GXE, you’re still looking at a $330,000 sale price. Genovation is hopeful production will begin for the C7-based GXE in 2019.

    1. Really, your comment is “more gross black wheels” when it comes to one piece carbon fiber wheels? I’d say they are a little more than just “black wheels”. Do a little research….

      1. I personally like Black Wheels. But these are not just black wheels, like Matt said, do some research on Carbon Fiber Wheels.

      2. My Stingray is loaded with carbon fiber. My rims are beautiful 5 spoke Torque chrome rims. What does research have to do with anything as if carbon fiber is some new thing? You like black? Nice winter rims I’d say. I really don’t mind a well styled shiny black rim just don’t agree that they’re even half as nice as aluminum or chrome. And somehow black is becoming more popular than chrome but Corollas are more popular than a vette so the masses are not something I follow.

        1. I think you missed my point. Carbon fiber “trim panels”are not the same as wheels made entirely from CF. It is not about them being black, it is about the engineering and technology that goes into them. CF wheels (from what I read) are stiffer than heavy OEM metal wheels at the same weights as aftermarkey lightweight alloys. That is a pretty big deal. It’s not like they couldn’t be painted a different color if that is really an issue. How many companies even make wheels from CF that are available?

  2. They are probably lighter but obviously way more expensive and it still is a look I do not like. If I was going to Laguna I may require the lighter rims. The chromed aluminum rims on my car are quite light for 19+20 inch rims. For just tooling around like most people in these cars they are just fine. Painting rims? Please no.
