We’ve already seen what exhaust options Corsa Performance offers for 2014-2017 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras powered by the 5.3L EcoTec3 L83 V8; now, it’s time to see what the folks at Borla Exhaust have to offer.
In the above video from Borla, you’ll get to hear the differences between the Touring, S-Type, and ATAK systems the firm offers for the 5.3L Silverado/Sierra pickup. These three kits run the gamut from “loud” to “deafening,” providing a range of different options depending on the user’s desired exhaust volume, but frankly, any of the three options would be an improvement over the factory exhaust.
If you’ve seen previous Borla exhaust system comparisons, you’ll know that the Touring is at the low end of the spectrum in terms of volume. Next comes the moderate S-Type kit, followed by the ATAK at the extreme end. We tend to be quite partial to Borla’s ATAK systems, and this remains true for Borla’s kits for the L83-powered Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra.
But that’s just us. Hear the comparison for yourself, then let us know which one you think is best in the comments section below.

The good news is they are all good sounding systems. The bad news is that each system will only sound good a variable percentage of time driving…good ol’ cylinder deactivation kills the enjoyable sound while in V4 mode. I had the touring system in my 15 Yukon with the 5.3. In my estimation, I am in V4 mode at least 40% of the time, at which point, makes this kind of system worthwhile only around 60% of the driving experience. Way to frustrating to me, went back to stock system. You will find yourself constantly burying your foot into the pedal to keep the good sounds going. It might work some people, but keep this in mind when have to spend $1,000.00 plus for one of these systems. I have my system with a few thousand miles of use, sitting around collecting dust and out a thousand bucks.
John, I would be more than interested in that dusty exhaust and be willing to help you recoup some losses. I have a 2015 with a 5.3l and would be willing to buy yours. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you’d like.
Thanks! Good to know about V4 mode. Also, how is the volume inside the cabin compared to stock? A lot louder, subtle, … Did you notice a performance boost or better throttle response with it? Thanks for any insight!
Anybody have input/comment or a video showing what it sounds like in the cabin with the doors shut at start up, idle, and driving (2017 Sierra Crew Cab). My wife loves how quiet the stock is while driving and I was curious how loud the other 3 are in terms of cabin volume.
I also have a SLP Loudmouth exhaust on a 2002 Camaro and it is very loud. So, I don’t know these compare to that in terms of cabin volume.
