2018 Buick Regal TourX Wagon Spied Testing In Germany

When Buick reveals the 2018 Regal and 2018 Enclave, that will make its oldest product in its lineup, the Buick Cascada convertible, just over a year old. The brand is excited about that, but we’re excited about a Buick wagon, likely to be called the 2018 Buick Regal TourX.

And the Regal TourX has been spied out in Germany testing ahead of its reveal. We know it’s a Buick thanks to the big badge up front and the fact the 2017 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, in which the Regal TourX will be based on, has already been revealed. It looks nearly identical to the German wagon, and that’s not a bad thing, as we think the Insignia Sports Tourer is very appealing to look at.

Just this week, the California Air Resources Board also filed a compliance certificate for a Regal TourX, complete with a 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive.

The Buick Regal TourX will join the regular 2018 Buick Regal, which is expected to ditch its four-door sedan layout, and move to a five-door liftback design.

We don’t have much longer to wait, though. Buick announced it will reveal the 2018 Regal on April 4, 2017, at the GM Technical Center in Detroit. The Regal TourX will also be the first wagon from the brand since the Roadmaster was killed off in the 1990s.

  1. I had a 1995 Buick Regal Limited sedan (3.8 L V6) until December 2015 (21 years) and I loved that sedan! Most Regal owners keep their car for many years, especially the famours GNX with the turbo 3.8 L V6 engine, the only V6 that out accelerated a V8 Corvette, and ran at the Indy 500. Many Regal fans still hope that Buick will produce a new sports sedan that can regain the fame of the GNX.

  2. The new Regal is an extremely attractive car. I think if GM put a little more effort into a halo version of it they could really have something.
If the Regal’s engine bay can take a LGX V6 then likely it’ll take an LGW TT V6 – or even better – a LF4 TT 3.6 V6. Drop the LF4 in the new Regal with AWD, tune the engine to 515 or so HP (the LF4 can take it), and call it a Grand National. Hand out bumper stickers saying “We Brake for Audis.” C’mon Mary, Make Buick Great Again!

    1. The Insignia A could be had with 2 different 2.8 L V6 engines – the OPC variant and the 4×4 “Country Tourer”.

I think those will be available in the Insignia B, too.

  3. I have found yet another error within the writing of an article, namely this one. Can you find it in the first paragraph? It looks like a spelling error this time, Could these mistakes be the result of having either too little or perhaps too much caffeine? One can only speculate.

    1. Yup I found it. Poor journalistic skills at work here. I hope they do this right and get the features and pricing in line, so that a year or so later they can’t come back and cry foul then cancel it because it didn’t sell.
