2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Boasts 702-Mile Range, Can Make For Extensive Road Trips

Road trips in the United States are quite different from packing up the car across the pond in Europe. While two hours worth of driving can mean multiple different countries in the old world, two hours worth of driving may not even get you out of your home state in the U.S.
But that means there is a lot of room for exploration, and the 2017 Cruze diesel wants you to see the USA in your Chevrolet. Roadshow reports the brand has teamed up with Roadtrippers.com, a site that maps out points of interest with unique filters to find whatever you’re searching for on a road trip. With its unique Cruze diesel portal, the site creates a radius of how far a driver can reach on a single tank of diesel fuel.
Personally, I would be able to head east before rolling in on fumes outside of Augusta, Maine from my location. Or, as they say, “go west, young man.” The Cruze diesel would be able to take me as far west as middle-of-nowhere, Iowa without stopping for fuel.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze diesel revealed its significant fuel economy rating of 52 mpg highway earlier this year, which was an incredible labor of love by the engineering team. However, that lofty figure only applies to the six-speed manual transmission. If you’re not in the business of rowing your own, you’ll be stuck with 47 mpg out of the nine-speed automatic. City fuel economy actually drops one mile per gallon with the auto.
And if a diesel compact car isn’t for you, know Chevrolet will stick the same oil-burner in the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. We don’t expect identical numbers from the Equinox, but we’re sure they’ll be mighty impressive if not segment leading.

Kudos for offering a manual on these cars, GM.
Don’t let VW dieselgate ruin your opinion on diesel cars. Europeans had it right all along. Those fuel economy numbers are real, so is the longevity, and the cars feel downright stout when you drive them. Don’t expect having to downshift when you pass or go uphill with all that low end torque. Comparable gas engined cars might have slightly better 0-60 times on paper but the magazine testers don’t tell you about the red line abuse it takes to achieve those numbers.
Fantastic, not good enough, the circle around Iceland is 827,66 miles Road no:1.
Please let me know when it is capable for a roundtrip.
Name one other stock vehicle that can?
I do not know any that can do it, I just have to walk those remaining miles. And when a car can do 827,66 I will be the first to buy it.. the 702 miles is an excellent performance.
Compared to what has been achieved, then there is short time this will become a reality. Well done.
My 2.0 CTD deleted can easily make that 827.66 and then some. I can do about 1000 miles before needing a sip of fuel. Fill it to the neck of the tank with about 17 gallons and at 65-70 MPG you’re
golden.
MEN and WOMEN, … currently own 2015, VW GOLF TDI. Have owned 5 other GM/VW diesels. DIESELS RULE, never a problem-3 commercial, others personal, 3 over 200,000 miles. The current TDI gives me as high as 75.6 mpG (flat desert) and its lowest ever (all tanks) was 44.4 mpG. These statistics are all via fill/drive/fill/calculator. Most tanks are right at 600 miles driven, but a few are over 700 miles driven, all are above 500 miles driven. Tank is 12+ gallon. GM-BUILD MORE DIESELS. TORQUE DRIVING works so well – it is fun, and diesel fuel is a lubricate of sorts. THANKS, e.e.
I loved that commercial, “see the USA in your Chevrolet”.
….. “see the USA in your Chevrolet” ….. AGREE. And once the CRUZE DIESEL HATCHBACK is available, I intend to do just ‘that’. The only question is which to choose:: the manual 6-speed, …. or opt for the automatic 9-speed. … ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL. THANK YOU, e.e.
Given that our 2014 Cruze Diesel had a rated range of around 717 miles (15.6 gallon tank, 46 mpg highway rating) – and we made the drive all the way from Washington, MI to Zebulon, NC without stopping (filled up a few days later after arriving at 750 miles), with a trunk and half the back seat packed to the brim, I can guarantee the new Cruze Diesel will far surpass this range.
I know of plenty of Cruze Diesel owners who have far surpassed 750 miles on a tank, as well. We’d have likely done better if the first 1/4 of the trip wasn’t 30-40 degrees.
The 2014-15 2.0 had better range than the 1.6 CTD because Chevy reduced the tank by about three gallons in the 17-19 cars. Filled to the neck, the 2014-15 could hold almost 18 gallons of diesel.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Boasts 702-Mile Range is mindblowing as it translates of being able to make a round-trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles on a single tank without needing to refill or traveling from San Francisco to New York City in under 4 tanks.
