It’s V versus I, the defining letters for both the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE and BMW M2. Those letters don’t come from any sort of sport badging, but in fact, represent what’s under the hood, where the two cars differ the greatest.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro V6 1LE is the first time any sort of sporting treatment has been applied to a V6-powered Camaro, which long was the penalty box to say “I own a Camaro.” Its 3.6-liter LGX V6 engine, though, is no slouch, producing 335 naturally aspirated horsepower. But, torque suffers, coming in at only 284 lb-ft.
In comparison, the BMW M2 boasts 365 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. But, with both cars coming within each other in terms of what they promise consumers, Motor Trend brought both performance cars in for a classic Head2Head.
If you’re wondering why the Camaro SS 1LE wasn’t invited, it’s because the regular, sixth-generation Camaro SS wiped the floor with a BMW M4 previously in MT testing. No doubt the SS 1LE would do the same to the M2. And the V6 1LE proved to be a formidable opponent for the M2 with plenty of kind things to say.

The M2 might have edged out the Camaro performance-wise but I don’t think they made enough mention of the price difference ($55k for the M2 vs. $41k for the Camaro, as tested). How much Camaro can I buy for $55k?
For $55k, you could buy the Camaro that works it over.
Camaro 2SS for about, $44k actually. that would easily handle the task.
So I ask this question, should these mags be comparing cars of similar performance numbers? (Hp/tq) or similar in price?
These guys drive me nuts. All they do is yack yack yack and talk so fast that half the time I can’t understand what they’re even yacking about.
