While Automobile deliberates over the 2017 Cadillac CT6 and its potential for a coveted All-Star award, the 2017 CT6 already cleaned up in another award category.
U.S. News and World Report has named the 2017 Cadillac CT6 the “best luxury large car for families” after fending off competitors from Tesla, Audi, Mercedes and others. In particular, judges were impressed with its value for the money, sporty characteristics and high-tech features.
Par for the course, CUE fell short with judges but was outshone by the dynamic driving capabilities, spaciousness and value. Value is the key word with this award. Particularly, the Audi A7 checked in at $15,000 more even after adding pricey options, like the 34-speaker Bose Panaray sound system, to the CT6. Judges were also fond of the excellent fuel economy to be had with the base 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Despite the market’s love affair with crossovers, there’s no doubt the CT6 is good at what it does. And that is being a large, luxury sedan to comfortably move occupants with a sporting flair.

I had one for a loaner and was a very nimble large sedan.
Who gave a CT6 is a loaner? I like that person.
Trying to get me to upgrade from my ATS!!!
Yea! They can now call it “The Award Winning CT6” now. I really think the fundamentals of this car are very strong with an outstanding and innovative structure, excellent balance and handling, beautiful proportions and a very elegant and nuanced design. The flaws that it has (parts-bin powertrains and the cheap interior) can be fixed in time.
With a range of all-new engines and a new interior with top-notch materials, this car could easily win a lot more awards. I see CT6 as one of those products that gets better with time…but only if GM keeps trying.
I love the CT6, but I’m not sure how this is better for families more-so than, say, our underdog the XTS. A car that is just a roomy, cheaper, and a smoother ride and a Cadillac as well. What gives?
I don’t think there has been a case as similar, where two same sized cars from the same marque, having such opposite reception from the press. While, in the world world, that being the opposite.
B-but, wait, it’s probably the backseat TV’s! Seriously though, I don’t get the automotive press, I think backroom deals or shady business is going on. Those sites need those sweet advertisement dollars. Any ideas what it is? Is it the body shapes, the platform? I don’t get it.
Because the CT6 is the one you’d want to park in your driveway.
The XTS is the taxi to take you to the airport.
Nobody wants to own a taxi.
Grawdad – I’d rather have my car in my garage, the car I want to actually drive (or ride in). If you are into critic-promoted status symbols, then all that matters is what other people think, not your own personal preference.
Yoshiaki, it’s because the professional auto writers care about “sporty handling” while the majority of the public does not. Of course the XTS is a better buy and frankly a better car for most people considering both, but the XTS will never be rated highly because you can’t drive it like a NASCAR-wannabe maniac.
Personally I consider harsh rides and “feel the road” steering to be a negative, but the auto press is convinced it’s a positive. Blame initially goes to short trips on the Autobahn. Driving over uneven American roads and making long highway cruises would show off the strength of the XTS, but instead they take these cars to the Nurburgring to test them, as if that has anything to do with typical American driving.
Best large luxury car for families? Excellent!
Now, about that millennial target …over to you, Uwe and Melody…
Already do it, starting for these millennials.
Being considered for the award would be a great advertising tool for Cadillac if they would just share this type of information with the general public instead of auto enthusiasts that buy car magazines .
The only thing is couples that are starting families or already have young kids won’t have the CT6 on their shopping list of a vehicle they need . It’s just the times we live in where they are looking for that SUV that can carry all of the stuff that comes along with having kids .
I also wonder if Cadillac may not want their flagship car looked upon as a ” family ” vehicle.
Look at their ads , the car is aimed at that young professional that wants a status symbol to drive or get chauffered around in it . Your’e not going to see families towing a boat or a set of jet-skies with a CT6 . It’s just not the demographic the car is aimed at .
But any award is nice to put in a trophy case .
the CT6 can make a nice near luxury car ….but not worth the $100.000+ sticker price…the CT6 looks too much like a lesser car inside and out and doesn’t look like the Elmeraj, Ciel concepts and the CT6 have missed the mark there.
Slight correction, it is not $100k +! The Platinum is a little over $89k with the optional color. Basically all other equipment is standard. This is also for the 3.0 TT!
