Who would’ve thought that a junkyard LM7 V8 would ever go on to power a 9-second Willys Jeep?
Yet here we are, gawking at an LM7-powered Willys Jeep recently profiled by 1320Video. The noble engine has been fortified with steel head gaskets and head studs, aftermarket cams, COMP Cam push rods, and LS6 springs, but it’s still just a humble, ordinary, 5.3L V8 at its core.
Of course, the biggest modification is the pair of S366 Borg Warner turbochargers. Even with boost set to just 10 psi, the V8 makes 661 horsepower and 805 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. That’s enough to scoot this Willys Jeep down the quarter-mile in 9.94 seconds, at 134 miles per hour.
The owner stressed that he hadn’t gotten this idea from that other turbo-LSX Willys Jeep we covered back in March, 2016, and that his bonkers build was instead inspired by an episode of Road Kill. In any case, there’s no denying the Deathtrap LSX Willys Jeep is one badass ride. (To be honest, we sort of like this one better, since it has a roll cage.)
