Opel To Roll Out ‘Opel Exclusive’ Program Offering Unlimited Range Of Exterior Colors For New Insignia

Opel is taking yet another page from premium auto brands as it announced it will roll out the “Opel Exclusive” program with the 2018 Insignia Grand Sport. The all-new program will allow owners to customize their 2018 Opel Insignia to their exact tastes with an “unlimited range of colors based on personal preference.”

Want your Insignia to match your favorite tie? Done. Always dreamed of owning a purple Opel? Also done. Opel says its team behind the Exclusive program will make it happen.

Upon selecting a color, Opel will offer three distinct finishes for customers including tri-coat, metallic and pearl finishes. Tri-coat provides a smooth appearance, while the metallic reflects more incident light to sparkle more. The pearl finish embeds a fine layer of crystal into the paint hue to provide a self-explanatory pearlescent finish.

Exclusive customers will also be able to choose from a variety of leather, wheel and decorative trim options after selecting the color and finish to truly provide a customized touch.

And, to help customers with the Opel Exclusive program, the brand will offer an expanded range of tools to help customize their ideal Insignia. They will include 4K showroom images and augmented reality to gain a feel for their selections.

Opel will announce the Exclusive program alongside the auto show debut of the 2018 Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show. Additional details will be revealed at the brand’s press conference on March 7, 2017.

  1. Interesting how big is alloy choises. Old insignia is verry large alloy choises. Is this mirrors painted cheap silver or real metal like other cars. We ll see. But that program is good

  2. How can Opel make these decisions when their future is still unclear? They should hope Peugeot takes a hands off approach if the company purchases Opel.

  3. I think this is a great idea! I can only hope GM transfers this program over to the US when the 2018 Regal GS and Sports TourX is sold. That would really attract buyers.

  4. At some point we should see unlimited range of colors being offered in the U.S. , for select premium vehicles.

Over the last several years, GM has been investing in improving painting operations for several key locations. The Corvette plant is one, and so is the Arlington Texas factory. Color flexibility should be a part of these investments.

    1. While I agree it’s a neat idea! But is it what MAINSTREAM buyers want? Would it be worth GM’s time and money to go after what could be a very niche market? Not trying to sound negative …

  5. Would someone please send this information to Cadillac . Although it will be expensive to offer such a deal it’s been done before at GM in one of their old facilities . Today’s paint booths are so automated that you get superior finishes on cars these days . GM uses an electro-static system that gives an even paint job with barely any orange peel .
The main paint shop can paint regular colors while a second shop can paint custom colors at a slower line speed with more time to give the specialty colors the additional attention they need .
Adding special materials for the interiors is time consuming which is why they cost more . There are exotic cars that will tailor a car to a customers wants but is more complicated for mass producers . That Opel is an awesome looking car , the body lines are a great departchure from the norm .
Like Lincoln has their Black Label for the Continental , Cadillac could do something above their regular Platinum trim , a CT6 Grande or CT6 de”ville , and since they would be a niche program it would give Cadillac a trophy car which = a better image .

  6. I actually love the idea of user color choice and have suggested it for years regarding all car makers. But there’s big giant dangerous catch: people being disappointed with the color they chose.

New parents love to paint their kids room yellow. Yellow is virtually an impossible color to paint properly. I’ve heard from at least 6 different couples how they tried yellow, stopped midway in horror, and had to start over again.

Yellow greens are even more of nightmare — because they can look like vomit in many lighting situations.

The type of customer that wants their very own specific color can also be very VERY spoiled and picky. “Hmm… that’s not the exact shade I was thinking of somehow…”

    Be very VERY cautious…

  7. This is something Cadillac should have had a few years ago ….

  8. The color thing has been around on higher end cars in Europe.
It is a nice deal but it does add to the cost in most cases.

I expect Cadillac to have more custom offerings when they get the new product out. They need to get the product sorted out first and then move to the custome deals.

  9. Why isn’t there anything like it at Cadillac?! Or an Eldorado sub-brand à la Inscription at Volvo or Autobiography at Land Rover for that matter??

  10. Now that I think about it, JDN could have this in the pipeline for Cadillac. It would probably come after initial changes & when Caddy is viewed more of a competitor of MB/BMW. Guess we have to play the waiting game

    1. That seems plausible!
