Jeff Gordon will be returning to Daytona International Speedway, though he won’t be in the hunt for a podium. Instead, he’ll be pacing the race in a brand 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 pace vehicle.
Chevrolet revealed its 2017 Camaro ZL1 pace car ahead of the big race this Sunday with unique graphics and a built-in LED safety lighting system. But, the Camaro ZL1 wasn’t the only vehicle revealed with the pace car treatment.
The brand also revealed a Chevrolet Silverado pace truck, which was used in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Nextera Energy Resources 250 yesterday evening. Finally, Chevrolet showed off a standard Chevrolet Camaro SS pace car that will be used during the NASCAR XFINITY Series Powershares QQQ 300 today.
This Camaro SS is finished in the sports car’s latest hue, Krypton Green, and houses quite a few Chevrolet accessories, including a black graphics package, 20-inch polished wheels and a Brembo brake kit.
Additionally, Chevrolet used the race weekend to reveal its latest member of the Camaro family: the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. The track-day monster adds a variety of aerodynamic and suspension improvements to the already bonkers Camaro ZL1.
This weekend’s Daytona 500 will mark the fifth time a Camaro has been used as the official pace car; a Camaro was previously used in 2011, 2009, 1969 and 1968.
