Is The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS Quicker Than A Focus RS Around A Track?: Video

We doubt the two would actually be cross-shopped, but it’s a valid question since Chevrolet and General Motors has yet to grace the North American market with a cheap thrills kind of hot hatchback.

Motorsport Magazine put the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS to the test at the track to see if its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine could dethrone the nimble, all-wheel drive Ford Focus RS. We already know the Camaro is capable of shaming quite a few various vehicles, even in V6 1LE form, so we went into the video confident the Camaro SS would be capable enough to take down Ford’s hottest of hot hatches.

However, the final result may surprise you somewhat. Check out the video above to see the final outcome.

  1. I assume this was an amateur driver? Hardly proof of what this car is capable of.

Spoiler alert, we don’t even find out the laptimes.

    1. Lap times were at the 1:47 mark. Camaro 1:24.50 vs Focus RS 1:24.58. You are right however, the driver appears fairly amateurish. The real comparison shows us that the Mustang GT was over three seconds slower than either the Camaro and the Focus RS. Mustang owners should be asking Ford: “What’s up with that?”

      1. “Grand Tour” compared the Mustang GT to a Focus RS on their track using a professional driver and the Focus won.

Ford has done an amazing job with the RS. That said, I’d go pony car without hesitation. And the Camaro should be the most fun of the bunch to drive.

  4. Real discussion should be what does Chevrolet need change to the Camaro SS to catch Porsche’s 911 especially if increasing stock horsepower might not be an option, could this be done with further suspension tweaks or will the Camaro SS need to lose 250-300 lbs of weight also.

  5. I own a focus rs, I’d take AWD for winter weather fun, and hatchback practicality over the mustang or camaro any day. There is very little sacrifice in fun factor with the focus rs.
