It’s probably not the smartest move to lie about where your vehicle was totaled, especially when the place the accident occurred features cameras absolutely everywhere.
However, it was a personal GoPro camera attached to the C7 Corvette that proved to be the owner’s downfall. According to Corvette Blogger, after wrecking the C7 Corvette at the drag strip, the owner told Geico the incident happened on Interstate 10 in Chandler, Arizona. At first, the claim went through, with Geico paying out $61,465 for the wrecked Corvette.
Apparently, the owner was either too careless or totally forgot about a YouTube video posted showing him lose traction and wreck on the track. Geico discovered the video and confronted the owner.
The owner plead guilty to insurance fraud after the Arizona Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigated the case. A plea agreement meant the owner was to pay back the $61,465 to Geico, plus $1,560 in court costs. He will also serve two years of supervised probation for the insurance fraud.
So, what have we learned? Lying is bad and cameras are everywhere.

Dayyuuum…that sucks. Wonder how Gieco stumbled upon the video. Shouldn’t have uploaded it to YouTube newb!
This deserves jail time. The owner stole from every person who uses that insurance company. Paying a total of $1500 actual loss is ENCOURAGEMENT to everyone else to attempt the same thing.
Wonder how much more he has lied and cheated about…
Ahh, the combination of money, speed, and stupidity. The moron is very lucky the cost of his vette, court fees and two years probation is all he got. Might of got something for it if he had told the truth. Most insurance companies know there is a likelihood these cars will see a track or two in their lifetime.
It just goes to show that being a showoff and being crooked don’t mix.
Would that have been a total loss? Seems high for that damage but maybe the unibody was bent beyond repair.
