The GM Authority Take

Introduced for the 2010 model year, the first-generation Terrain is now in its eighth year on the market. The crossover has received some changes and updates during its lifespan, but none of them have been major. As such, we imagine that the continuous decrease in Terrain sales is the result of new car buyers preferring newer, more modern crossovers from competing automakers.

As it happens, an all-new, second-generation GMC Terrain. The all-new Terrain rides on an all-new architecture (GM’s D2 platform), features all-new exterior and interior, is more fuel efficient and sheds some weight thanks to the new bones. It is also smaller in exterior dimensions while roughly maintaining the interior space of the first-gen model.

As such, we expect that the introduction of the all-new, second-gen model will enable Terrain sales volume to rebound shortly after the vehicle launches in 2017. The 2018 Terrain will launch in the summer of 2017.
