Eskridge Chevrolet has made a name for itself with its exclusive Fireball Camaro deals, including the “Fireball 700” – a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro with 720 horsepower and a starting price of less than $50,000. The Fireball Camaro has still another claim to fame: it’s the first sixth-gen Camaro to record a 9-second quarter-mile pass. Eventually, that record will undoubtedly be broken, but for now, the Fireball Camaro is on top.
As you’ll see in the video above, the Camaro launches down the strip with such tenacity that the front two wheels are lifted off the ground for just a moment. Just 9.006 seconds later the Camaro crosses the finish line at 149 miles per hour – impressive, to say the least.
In order to achieve this goal, the Fireball 900 Camaro shown was given a suite of top-shelf performance enhancements. For starters, the supercharger was upgraded to a Procharger F1a-94 unit. The 6.2 liter LT1 V8 was then fitted with CNC-ported cylinder heads, a custom camshaft, forged rods and pistons, a Procharger intake, a new exhaust system, a shot of nitrous, and an ECU tune from Calibrated by Karger.
Although Fireball may hold the record at this point in time, the crew is well aware that other performance shops are hot on its heels. With that in mind, Fireball is aiming to set an even more ambitious record.
“Nobody has ever taken a 6th-gen Camaro into the eights, so that’s our goal,” said Ryan Martin, co-owner and driver of the Fireball Camaro. “We blew our drive shaft on the last run of the day and kept encountering a slip at 1,500 rpm. We’re working directly with Circle D Specialties to get a triple disc torque converter that should solve the slip and are replacing the drive shaft. Those modifications should allow us to break into the eights and hold the record for the foreseeable future.”
