The GM Authority Take

The Chevy Trax continues to confirm the growth of the subcompact crossover space in the United States along with the market’s seemingly insatiable demand for crossovers, albeit at the expense of sedans.

In the United States, Chevrolet was second to enter the subcompact crossover segment, while Nissan’s Juke was the first. Rival automakers, such as Honda with the HR-V and Toyota with the C-HR, have since followed suit by launching or introducing vehicles into the rapidly-growing segment. Late last year, GM’s cross-town rival, Ford, announced plans to start selling its Ford EcoSport CUV in the United States. The vehicle will compete directly with the Chevy Trax.

Given the growth of the B-segment CUV segment as well as the ongoing growth in crossover sales, we see no reason that sales of the Trax — which is built in South Korea and Mexico for the U.S. market — will fall any time soon.
