  1. Wow, the poor Lacrosse. So, at this point I’ve seen plenty of reasons (or excuses) for the poor sales performance of the Lacrosse, which being a pretty good all-new car should by all accounts have increased sales. I don’t believe that the CUV boom is having much effect on the Lacrosse. It could be the newfangled shifter or the undefeatable start-stop, but probably not to this extent. My finger points to the lack of lower trim level models in dealer inventory combined with lack of incentives, but I did some digging and that’s not the whole story either.

    January 2017: 1307 units
    January 2016: 4057 units
    January 2015: 2023 units
    January 2014: 2849 units

So yes, the Lacrosse is down when compared to 2014 and 2015, but 2016 was unusually high in sales (perhaps because of high incentives, but probavly fleet sales of an old model). I still find the sales of the Lacrosse to be disappointing, but it is also not quite the failure that it looks like based only upon the numbers above.

    2. I agree. Lacrosse sales are disappointing this month but when placed in this broader context they’re still acceptable.
Here’s hoping they pick up in February.

  2. LaCrosse is a mystery; do is Malibu over at Chevrolet: Time for sales support until these cars catch on in a meaningful way.
Ann aged Enclave doesn’t help sales, either. Hoping Grandcountry is good enough for Buick badging so that the brand can better take advantage of the SUV boom.
The industry is changing fast. Buick needs to be in front of the curve.

    1. As much as Buick needs to be ahead of the curve, Cadillac needs it more. Buick at least has crossovers to help ease the sedans declining sales however Cadillac does not. It’s good that the Cadillac CUVs are coming and will have JDNs influence unlike the already planned XT5 & CT6. Hopefully it’s a good thing!

  3. Can you imagine if General Motors did what Donald Trump wants which is to build all of the cars sold in China to be manufactured in the United States and then exported; Buick alone would need an unknown number of factories and a fleet of cargo ships because Buick sold 123.278 vehicles in China for December 2016 as this means needing to build and deliver 4,000 cars per day.

One has to wonder whether the US National power grid can generate the electricity needed to power all of the factories to support the production of 4,000 Buick and 500 Cadillac cars per day just for China.

  4. when was last time you saw a advertisement of a Verano – Regal — Lacrosse , there are buyers out there who don’t even know what they are . where the hell is GM,s marketing , don’t they see other commercials where they mention aspects about the model —fun to drive–safety rating– v6 engine -turbo engine gas mileage– exciting options –great leases ,,, the best come out with is —is that a Buick —-0r -closing windows in a apartment– —no wonder sales are down .. Enclave 9 year old ??? Really

  5. Too many little Buicks . Sadly I believe many full size Buick customers were hoping the ” new” LaCrosse would be a version of the Aviner but unfortunately it was just pretty much more of the same, only higher priced.

  6. Buick(GM) has got to concentrate on CUVs and severely limit sedans . Don’t build anymore plump dumplings on wheels , like their smallest one . A more BALANCED DESIGN and maintain roof line past the rear seat , try not to raise(curve) the beltline up as it gets into the rear side doors . This and the resulting ridiculous mini rear window makes for a cramped tunnel atmosphere . Open up the interior with larger windows , like the new 2018 Equinox , the designers here have finally seen the light . Again , build more smaller (but larger on the inside) CUVs !!!

  7. Drive by a Buick GMC dealership ( like where i was Sat. afternoon ) and there are literally rows of LaCrosses sitting on the lot . When it first showed up at the auto shows it received high praise but just where is the advertising !?!
Most of our snow has melted here in Michigan and the LaCrosse’s were covered in snow as if the dealership didn’t bother with them because they aren’t selling anyway .
Buick as a whole has been doing very well making money for the Corporation and China loves them . I don’t know what their inventory levels are but would not be suprized to see some sort of lease or finance deals to move some of them .
Buick still can’t shake their old image of being an older persons car and that has to hurt luxury cars for them . Maybe when the Avenir program starts that might help bring people in to atleast see what it’s all about .

  8. I think they have an image problem along with crappy advertising as well. New product scheduled can’t get here soon enough too.

  9. The LaCrosse should be the one least affected by image. The one thing that might draw me to this size class is chauffeuring around my parents comfortably.

  10. the Lacrosse is still an odd looking , undersized cheap FWD car that attracts old people.

    1. I’m pretty sure you can say that to any of the mainstream large cars in this category
