If you haven’t yet put your order in for a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, you may want to hold off until the second quarter of 2017.
Chevrolet has confirmed Krypton Green will become a production exterior hue for the 2017 Camaro ZL1. As for when it will actually enter production, the second quarter of the year begins on April 1 and ends on June 30.
We first saw Krypton Green worn by the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. At the time, Chevrolet was toying with the possibility of putting the color into production. The hue itself was inspired by the Camaro Krypton concept, shown at the 2015 SEMA Show.
The color received plenty of positive reactions and we think it’s an excellent follow-up to the fifth-generation Camaro’s Synergy Green hue.
Chevrolet told us Krypton Green will be a $395 surcharge for any customer looking for quite a unique exterior color.
It’s worth noting Krypton Green looks awfully similar to Holden’s pre-production “Spitfire” exterior hue. Spitfire is also rumored to join either the 2017 VF Commodore Series II’s palette or the final run of Gen-F2 HSV cars.

Wait, they charge more for that color???
I would prefer rainforest/emerald green.
As a new owner of the 2017 ZL1 in Krypton green, I must say….. while an eye full at first, this color does more than grow on you.
Love Love Love Love Love this color. The new ZL1 could be turd brown with pink stripes and would still be awesome. the performance makes her what she is!
What does ZL1 needs is more interior color choices. And now that I mentioned it so does the SS.
Agreed!
Yes across the board the Camaro needs more interior choices.
I spoke with a rep from GMs customer care who told me today the ZL1 in Krypton Green will not be produced. Who is telling the truth? Why can’t we get a straight answer?
I just put in an order for a Krypton Green ZL1- it is a constrained option so will be very hard to get but nonetheless it is available for order! My dream car!!!
The dealer must have an allocation for Green otherwise your car order will not get picked up. Tell the dealer you want to see the page that shows they can order green. The color is available for 63 specific dealers nationwide not just any dealer with allocation.
Yes sir! I’m in the business and order these things for a living and unfortunately this week we don’t have allocation for green but we can still pick one up if one of those 63 dealers don’t order green and the chances of that happening are very good. Plus those numbers sometimes have been wrong. I’ve been ordering cars for years and I’ve picked up stuff on run pass 3 that if I told you, you’d swear I was lying.
Paul……You have seemed to have the most insight into this scenario. I have a deposit on a 2017 Krypton Green ZL1 that I am planning to pick up Monday in Tennessee. Do you have any more insight to your comment about the production run being on 63 ZL1’s produced? That is actually factoring in on my decision somewhat. I really appreciate your insight.
Thanks…….Josh
does this mean there are only 63 in this production? is it limited to the 63?
No, there were 65 A10 ZL1s and 46 M6 Cars. They also produced 17 Convertibles. 12 Autos and 5 Manual transmission cars. Total Krypton Green ZL1 production was 128.
The Chevrolet build option still doesn’t show the color and no official pricing is listed anywhere for buyers. Several orders were accepted by GM and not a single TPW for any of these cars. Makes you wonder if this is just a hoax.
A lot of times with special options you won’t get normal production updates like normal orders. If GM accepted the orders it will be built- I guarantee it.
supposedly if you didn’t have an order in by March 8th you’re not going to get a zl1 car built
supposedly if you didn’t have an order in by March 8th you’re not going to get a car built
Correct. The color was available on Feb 9 and only 63 cars nationwide would be built. The order process opened again in March. Only a few orders were accepted. Buyers in April had their orders cancelled as the production run had already closed.
Rob…..thanks for your insight. I have a deposit on one in TN that I plan on picking up on Monday. So you can confirm that there is only going to be 63 of this model produced? That actually if factoring into my buying decision slightly. I am a current 2011 Synergy Green Camaro owner also. The ZL1 is super expensive but seems like a solid investment.
Thanks for any and all insight!
Josh
My resources tell me 69 cars were produced all together. That number might be lower. The color was offered only two months before being discontinued. Check out the Camaro6 Forum for pictures of mine. It just was delivered to the dealer at 9AM this morning.
Thanks so much for the reply and feedback. That is impressive and I was hoping that was going to be the real number. Mine has been at the dealership since we flew back from our honeymoon Tuesday night. I have went over there a couple of times to look at it. I have had a deposit on it since we were on the honeymoon. I guess I am going to go pay for it tonight and then pick it up tomorrow then the weather is good. Its just a ton of money. I have a 2011 Synergy Green Camaro as well. I need to get on the Camaro6 forum, but never have been on it.
I know there are 17 units available nationally as we speak. Only 7 of them are automatics. This will be one of the rarest combinations since the introduction of the ZL1 in 1969. Though the total production is significantly higher Krypton Green and Garnet Red rank number 1 and 2 due to constraints.
What is General Motors going to do for the people who put orders in in the first and second week of March and had them cancelled after waiting 4to5 weeks thinking that we were going to get a car
That is very discouraging. The plan was to launch the color at the end of the model run. Internal literature said March availability. With little to no advance warning the color went live in the system on 2/9. I placed my order that day because I knew a few people and got the heads up. My order was accepted and my car was just produced on 4/20. I’m anticipating delivery mid May. If my order was cancelled I’d ask two questions. What was your event code status after placing your order, 1100? or 2000? Did you get a copy of the workbench order?
Just fyi guys I ordered a 6 Speed Manual Krypton Green ZL1 for myself- carbon fiber hood insert, nav, battery protection, no sunroof, performance data recorder… Needless to say right after I ordered the car we found out we were having another baby and while I could swing it, just not good timing. This car just landed and it’s now sitting on our showroom floor. I’m the General Sales Manager of Shottenkirk Chevrolet in Waukee, Iowa (Suburb of Des Moines, IA) so if anyone wanted to buy one- this is about the only manual zl1 krypton green available in the country- only asking MSRP. Call/text me if you want- 515-505-0882 or call the dealership at 515-987-8575 and ask for Paul DeYarman.
Disregard- sold car
Met the primary for the development of the ZL1 for 2017. only 63 in this color for the A10 a total on all krypton green in 2017 was 126.
awesome info, super nice guy.
