GM Backed Lyft Pledges $1 Million Donation To American Civil Liberties Union

Over the weekend, firestorms of protesters erupted in airports across the United States, following President Donald Trump’s executive order to halt immigration from several middle eastern countries.
The response and reactions were swift from opponents, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which succeeded in a partial stop on the immigration ban.
The ACLU has received numerous donations since the happenings, but General Motors backed Lyft pitched in, too.
According to The Detroit Free Press, Lyft pledged a $1 million donation to the ACLU in response to the immigration ban. It comes at the same time when rival Uber came under fire for halting surge pricing at New York City’s JFK airport, as many viewed it as a way to undermine the protest. Cab drivers also stopped servicing in an effort to voice their opinions.
Since then, Uber has announced a $3 million legal fund for immigrant drivers and also called on the president to lift the ban.
General Motors itself has not made a statement regarding the immigration ban.

The President just eliminated a source of cheep Labour. Lyft can not pay a living wage, or make a profit. And yet they can give away one million dollars.
I wonder if George Soros owns a part of this company?
Well I never was going to use lyft anyway, now I’ll have to rethink my purchase of a new Chevrolet. If you lay down with dogs you get fleas. #AmericaFirst
If you lay down with carnival barkers you get crabs too. When your civil liberties are under fire, don’t come crying to the rest of us.
This makes me very glad I just bought a 2017 RAM vs a Silverado. As someone who owns some GM stock this outrages me!
This whole deal is so over blown. The left is just using this to try to leverage some power since they lost all they had.
The truth is this is only a deal for 90 days. They by then hope to have things to where they can better ascertain who some one is and verify they are safe to let in. When looking for the sour grape in a bunch you must use care as you do not want damage the good grapes but you still much find the sour one.
Note that they only targeted a few countries that are pretty unhinged at this time. Yemen is not exactly clear of radicals nor any other country on the list. In fact the list was supplied by the Obama administration pointing out the lack of ability to vet people from these countries.
May also note many of these countries do not have really good relations with us and their governments do not share any if much info. Others not on the list generally help a lot in vetting people and hence not on the list.
This was a sudden move but it had to be other wise if someone was going to make a move they would do it fast. You never send the play you have to the other team before you execute it.
While this will be incontinent for some for a while it will make things better and easier to do later on once they can do things much better.
If this were white Christians doing the damage I would expect the same thing as I just do not share in violence for religion.
Evil is Evil no matter the race. country or religion.
It is the job of the President like him or not to protect our country. Better to do this than try to explain why you did nothing before they count the bodies.
Note Bill Clinton in his State of the Union said we should do this but he did nothing and we got 911 all from people that came in with a mission. It happened once it will happen again if you do not try to guard against it.
One of the few times I can fully agree with you scott3.
Screw Lyft! And screw GM if they go along with it too!
I’ve never used Uber competitor Lyft, but this action ensures that I will never do so.
