One of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS racecars Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove in the 2014-15 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series raised $200,000 for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Earnhardt piloted the car in a total of six races, with the first being at Phoenix Raceway in February 2014. There Earnhardt led 51 laps before running out of fuel for leading and settling for a runner-up finish. The car was then driven by the fan-favorite driver at a number of short tracks including Richmond International Raceway, where he finished 10th, and in both the spring and summer events at Bristol Motor Speedway, one of which he finished ninth in.
The proceeds from the sale directly benefitted the Nationwide Children’s Hospital – a pediatric care facility and research institute that specializing in cancer, NICU, heart conditions, muscular dystrophy and other common conditions. Nationwide is the title sponsor of Earnhardt Jr.’s No. 88 Chevrolet and will continue to serve as the primary sponsor on the car during the 2017 NASCAR season.
