Chevrolet Planning A Product Introduction For 2017 Chicago Auto Show

The Chicago Auto Show represents the largest consumer auto show in the United States in terms of public foot traffic. That makes it a very important show to, well, show your new products.

However, it’s normally not the hottest show regarding actual new product announcements. But, there are times that trend has been bucked. This year, Chevrolet is planning a new product introduction at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, according to information released from the show’s organizers.

Last year, Chevrolet took the wraps off of the 2017 Camaro 1LE in both V6 and V8 variations. This year, we’re not entirely sure what the brand has up its sleeve. The company’s crossover lineup has been completely revamped as of recent with the refreshed 2017 Trax, all-new 2018 Equinox and recently revealed 2018 Traverse.

Though, Chevrolet conveniently did not show off the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse in its announced RS trimmings just yet.

Therefore, we’re using our educated guess to pin it as a Cruze or Malibu announcement, though that’s simply speculation on our part. When we drove the 2017 Cruze last year, the brand stated it would be inviting media back for a few other variants of Cruze and the things have been quiet on the Malibu front for some time.

If you have any guesses as to what Chicago holds for Chevrolet, take a shot at it in the comment section below.

  1. Odd news. I doubt they would reveal the Corvette ZR1 at this show. It could be a total surprise and be the rumored SUV to slot between the new, smaller Equinox and the Traverse.

    1. That would still seem to be an odd market to do a major announcement like the ZR1 especially since Chicago, from what I know, is not a huge Corvette market.

My guess would be on a variant of a recently model like the Cruze or Malibu.

What about a new version of the Impala based on the same chassis that currently underpins the LaCrosse?
With the new Malibu pretty much the same size as the current Impala it needs to get bigger and more modern to remain competitive.

  2. I am thinking the Chevrolet Blazer.

    1. You could be right but that would be 3 SUV’s in the last 6 months.

  3. I think the possibilities are Blazer, sport varient of Malibu or Cruze, ZR1, or unless theyre trying to revamp the trucks

    1. New trucks are supposed to be 2019 model year, so I bet we see them next year, probably Detroit. I’d like this to be a Blazer (If rwd based and available v8). I think a new Impala will come on next years circuit with the trucks.

      1. But then Ford just refreshed the F150 so….

        1. A few years ago they bumped up the t1xx trucks by 9 months to make them 2019 model year. They’re not just sitting on a new truck, development is underway and they are rumored to be for sale in the summer or fall of 2018. They aren’t ready to be unveiled.

Besides, the current trucks were refreshed for 2016

  6. New Impala

    1. That is certainly possible.
Sales are sliding for the big girl especially with the new Malibu so it needs a refresh.

  7. Camaro Z28??

    1. That’s what I was thinking but maybe they will not unveil the Z/28 until the Detroit auto show

      1. That’s 2018 as a 2019 model then?
That seems like a long time.

      2. I’d expect the Z/28 and the ZR1 to both debut in New York. Chicago will probably see the 2018 Impala refresh or possibly the recently spied 2018 Cruze Hybrid. Spy shots of the latter car just surfaced online. Either way, it will be light news

    1. although, i don’t think that is what is being shown at the show. the likelihood of this happening seems plausible. one does already exist as the Holden Trailblazer. wouldn’t take much to shackle a few down on a boat and bring them over.

  9. It will be a variation of an existing model or special edition.

At this point there has been no real mules spotted of a total new model at this point so this may limit something big.

    1. The Chevy equivelant of the new Acadia has been spotted in camo. Most believe it to be the Blazer.

      1. Possibility but not a sure thing.

Many of the mule photos were really the Traverse in cammo.

Also the timing is not good coming off the Traverse. Two similar vehicles in two back to back shows is not how they normally intro product.

I still think it is a special edition or optional package on an existing vehicle. Just call it a hunch.

I just do not expect as totally new model and or platform.

Like the Camaro last year it showed the 1LE package but not an entire new car.

Who knows since the Diesel is coming in with more models how about a Malibu Diesel?

I just do not expect a massive surprise of any real off the chart special vehicle here to get really excited about.

Most post here are pipe dreams and just have little to no chance of ever happening let alone in Chicago.

        1. too many camaro variations now, and sales are steadily going down as GMs focus is now on electric vehicles, pickups and SUVs

  11. More than likely, the Cruze Diesel, as the LT sedan variant is being introduced in the 2017 model year. The rest of the sedan trim levels, as well as the hatch version, will be released for MY2018.

  12. V8 RWD Chevelle made in the USA not a Australian SS.

  13. Many possibilities,
SS version for the Cruze (2.0 300 hp) or Malibu (3.0 turbo or 3.6 turbo 400 hp+).
    A RWD Alpha based Impala.
An Omega based Caprice ( as premium car).
    A mid sized SUV.
    A Bronco fighter Blazer.
    A Cruze or Malibu Tourer.
A new pick up below the Colorado, a new El Camino.

    Redline Camaro
    Redline Malibu

  19. ….. .Impala is dying a slow death. Very little advertisement, first time sales have been under 100,000 (2016) …… Competitor, Ford Taurus is soon to disappear.

…..Camaro, already has too many variations, and its slower selling than predicted. Performance sales is just a niche today.

…..Pickups, SUVs, fuel efficient small cars, and Electrictrification of most of them (soon) is GMs future.
