Overall the 9000+ units for the first year of sales is respectable. This is never going to be a volume seller for Cadillac. Nothing at this price point is.
I expect for 2017 with production fully ramped up and sufficient inventories that this model will top out at about 1300-1500 units per month in it’s current form.
We will see whether or not Cadillac comes out with the 4.2TT V8 or addresses the one major gripe I hear about this vehicle vehicle which is too harsh a ride quality in the coming years.
A good first try though.
Tend to disagree that it was a good first try.
Cadillac marketing/sales doesn’t have a clue! This is a vehicle that I have a lot of interest but will not be buying because Cadillac can’t figure how to offer an $81K vehicle with any interior color other than black or limited cases gray . Neither color I want. With exterior colors such as Bronze Dune Metallic, Adriatic Blue, and Emerald Green, the Cinnamon interior–a form of tan is not available. A Premium Luxury Turbo as I would spec is only available in black. Henry Ford would concur, but this is not anyway to market a luxury automobile! An econobox this is not. Need to spend more time listening to potential customers and less time in the coffee shop!
Enough with the coffee shop analogy.
Do you really think the fact that Cadillac opened 1 coffee shop that has adversely affected products that have been in the pipeline for over 4 years?
That seems to be the copout comment.
Cadillac is doing some very good things and like every other manufacturer there are areas that need improvement.
No the copout is a supposed aspiring luxury brand that offers only a black interior in the next to highest model of the current flagship sedan! This is after paying approximately $4k for the Driver Assist and Comfort packages. Sorry this just wreaks cheap!
The copout comment was about blaming coffee shops and for that matter fashion shows for the shortcomings of Cadillac products.
The 2 are not related especially at this point in JdN’s tenure.
I saw a blue CT6 on the road today. It is a striking car and much more so in person. This is the only GM car I would want at the moment if I could afford one. Though it will be interesting to see the XTS/CT5 if they call it that, refresh. That car is more in my financial territory.
You will get your wish since Cadillac has done an about face when it comes to a re-do of the XTS.
These aren’t the best numbers for a new model , I would like to see a breakdown of what trim package is selling the most . Is it the AWD Luxury model at $55,000 or The fully optioned Platinum AWD $88,000 model . I would bet it’s the Premium Luxury AWD model .
Customers might have a tough time spending 88 grand for a car that looks just like the cheaper models do .
This model year will tell Cadillac more than 16 when the launch was slow and took time to fill the pipeline . I’ve had a chance to drive one for a weekend when my SRX was in the shop for warranty work and a part needed to be ordered .
It is a classy car , no doubt about it and made my SRX feel old style . It’s a big car but after driving it for awhile it doesn’t feel like a big car . The ride is nothing like what a DTS was. It absorbed all the potholes without bothering me at all . It does drive like a European automobile , not soft but rather taught and planted to the road . This may be a turn off to some looking for that old typical Cadillac ride .
The sad part was parking in my drive way and my neighbor who is a Lincoln driver ask me if I had a new car and “what is it ” . That is what GM or Cadillac need to work on , advertising escpecially with their new alphabet soup gracing the bodies of their new cars .
I am not seeing any complaints in your post. You said it was classy, handled well, didn’t feel as big as it was, absorbed potholes without bothering you, feels taught and planted on the road.
I think that was exactly what Cadillac was going for.
As far as sales volumes if you look at other cars in that price point their volumes are relatively low.
For large luxury cars they rarely sell over 1500 units per month;
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2017/01/usa-december-2016-large-luxury-car-sales-stats.html
As you mentioned the pipeline is now filled so they will sell more next year. I expect volume will be up around 40% year over year for 2017.
“The sad part was parking in my drive way and my neighbor who is a Lincoln driver ask me if I had a new car and “what is it ”
You tell him “It’s a Cadillac”. That’s it.
You don’t care enough to what kind of Lincoln it is that your neighbour drives, and he doesn’t care enough to ask what kind of Cadillac it is that you drive.
This vehicle, restyled after Escala inside and out, will be a winner in the market. The bones are great, just needs modern sheet metal. The current CT6/XT5 design language is tired and reminds me of “Old GM”.
See GM PDT’s post;
In person (of which I can attest as well) the CT6 looks great. It is modern, stylish, imposing and classy.
I like the Escala as well but the CT6 will do just fine.
your right…the current Caddy design language is tired….Cadillac needs to find something else besides the bloated , slab-sided profiles with the fat rears….the RWD Caddy sedans look long in the front nose and short and stubby in rear and the XT5 looks fat, stubby and slab-sided……Caddy needs to bring those stunning concepts to life.
Rye – you are an idiot who knows no bounds.
People keep telling you that you are wrong and that your opinion about Cadillac’s styling is moronic… but you just keep spewing the same garbage over and over.
how can this be Cadillac’s entry into the full sized luxury market when they already have the XTS? both cars have about the same room inside, and the CT6 actually has less trunk space. the only thing that looks bigger about the CT6 is the hood/nose. I have to agree with Martin through, if i’m going to pay $70,000+ for a car I want options, not just a black interior with a white exterior.
It is not just about the dimensions compared to the XTS but also the build quality, technology, chassis, driving dynamics, that put it in a different category than the XTS.
The XTS is a full sized sedan that never competed with the German models listed in the article (S-Class, 7 Series, A8) or the Lexus LS due to its architecture, driving dynamics, fit and finish, feature set, or even the general purpose of the vehicle, while the CT6 does that. That’s why it’s the first Cadillac sedan to compete in that class. Meanwhile, the XTS is in a different class.
Good points. Both cars have merit and both look great, in my opinion. I love the CT6; I think it’s just plain sharp, and the XTS is a classy beast as well. As to the XTS not competing against the large luxury makes of other brands, I have to disagree with you. To shoppers in this class, most attributes you mentioned (architecture, driving dynamics) are secondary in consideration, while size will always be primary, and the XTS fit and finish and features are just fine for a large luxury sedan (I argue it surpassed CT6 in fit in finish in a few areas). Basically, when you’re paying 50k plus for these cars, many people are going to consider all their options in this size class on equal terms. I do believe the XTS competes with the competition models you mentioned, as well and foremost the Lincoln Continental (both are priced very similar for reason). So, it’s of my opinion the original poster had a point, both cars, in the same size category for Cadillac, negates sales. I’ve witnessed first hand on several occasions, buyers go in to check out the CT6, but left with an XTS.
Anyhow, fun tidbit, check out the new documentary that just hit HBO chronicling Warren Buffet, he drives an XTS. A guy who could drive any car in the world, chose the XTS, that says something; he has great taste. Also, he seems to love the car, he purchased it at the local Cadillac dealership in Omaha, apparently, and then called the CEO of GM to congratulate her on a great experience.
Silant….shut your mouth…..Cadillacs need to look like the Elmeraj and Ceil.
And you need to come up with new shit. Every week and every new Cadillac post, you post the same tired shit.
We’ve heard all of your shit about Cadillac’s styling, and despite the fact that you can’t do anything about Cadillac’s styling, your mouth diarrhea won’t fuc#ing stop flowing.
You don’t come up with anything new about Cadillac and what they’re doing. You’ve been going on about Cadillac’s styling for almost 2 years now, and you still don’t fuc#ing get it!
Nobody cares about hearing the same thing from you. I don’t care if your autism is making you do this. If you’re not bringing anything new to discuss, then….
Grawdaddy…..thats your opinion….your the one with the bad mouth…..the new Caddys look even worse than 10 years ago with the softer edges and they are just plan boring.
Then I’ll need to remind you next time you waste our time with needless $hit about Cadillac. Take your autism elsewhere.
Hey Rye,
And this (below), is your opinion:
“the new Caddys look even worse than 10 years ago with the softer edges and they are just plan boring.”
Unfortunately for you to have an opinion on this topic that anyone will even consider, one must also be able to correctly spell words like:
Silent
Plain
Elmiraj
Ciel
… all of which you have managed to royally fu#k up during your worthless, useless, and idiotic tirades about Cadillac’s design language.
By the way, what car do YOU drive? I can almost guarantee that you won’t tell us, and instead ignore the question, as you have before.
So I’m right there with Graw: shut the fu$k up.
Graw and Silent….you guys are the most trashy, ignorant people I ever heard….at least I sound more grown-up than you two.
You haven’t sounded like anything but an autistic child for the last few years, ENDLESSLY going on about Cadillac. You’re in no position to tell anyone else that they are ignorant when you’ve wasted your life continually telling everyone on GMA the same opinion for years.
We get it. We’re all well aware of your opinions about Cadillac. Now, do you have anything else to add, or are you just going to keep repeating it?
Remember Rye, if you haven’t anything new to add, then…
