LS swap the world, right? That’s what many believe, including the guys and gals at Renegade Hybrids. Don’t let the performance house’s name fool you, these “hybrids” aren’t going green.
Instead, they’re ripping flat-six engines out of Porsches and replacing them with an LS engine of choice, straight from the General Motors catalog. Automobile had a chance to sample two of Renegade Hybrids’ Porsche projects, one a first-generation Boxster, the other a 996 911.
It’s a move sure to send purists crying under their blankies, but the market has spoken. 90 percent of Renegade Hybrids’ business comes from customers looking to swap their choice of LS engine into a Cayman, Boxster, 944, 914, 993, and 996. The Boxster spoken of here is fitted with an LS2 V8 engine making abut 350 hp to the wheels… in a Porsche Boxster.
The 996 911? It has a 7.0-liter LS7 V8 engine in the rear. Of course, the performance house has taken to upgrade the clutch and pressure plates to ensure the stock transmission can handle the gobs of power and torque from such an engine.
Some older Porsches, like the first-generation Boxster, can be had for a steal these days now. So, if you’re looking for something to mix up your everyday drive, Renegade Hybrids would love to show you a good time.

They can be green If you use an e-rod. LS3 LSA or LT1. Just think of a Porsche 928 with an LT1!
