The GM Authority Take
GM’s full-size van lines Savana and its Chevrolet Express twin are by far the oldest in their competitive classes, while new and modern full-size vans from Ford, Ram, Mercedes-Benz and even Nissan have become more appealing to customers. The turn of events puts GM at a clear competitive disadvantage.
As if that news wasn’t bad enough, it’s currently unclear whether the circumstance will change any time soon. So, despite sales having increased this month, we expect GMC Savana sales to continue sliding well into the future.

GM should have shown these full-sized vans some love over the last 5 years or so.
While the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster series full-sized commercial vans are gaining in popularity due to an improving economy GM has let their market share in this segment slip away.
Agree.
I would also like to see someone dig deeper and find out what’s stopping GM from bringing Vivaro and/or Movano and/or Combo into US. Is it Fiat when it comes to Combo? Is it Renault when it comes to Vivaro and Movano vans? Is there a clause that’s prohibiting GM from bringing them here?
Completely agree.
I saw a Opel Vivaro testing around the GM Canada a couple of years ago and thought for sure that would signal that they would bring those vans over.
It seemed like a good fit since a lot of the engineering had already been done by Opel.
Old GM tactics. Let the product die on the vine. Up grade improve beat the competition to. The punch. What the hecks wrong with you GM?
Actually the vans are production constrained because of the more profitable midsize twin. It should get better when GM opens the new cutaway line.
A new cutaway line will not make a 10+ year old product anymore competitive.
GM let this product die on this vine and did not think far enough ahead to figure that the recession would end eventually and that businesses will need work vehicles again.
Bad move GM.
There are much better segments with higher ROI than the vans.
