I honestly feel GM made made a mistake not offering AWD on this car. I am not saying sales would be on fire, but I am sure it would of helped them. Since the platform already is capable for AWD as they offer it on the XTS and Lacrosse, it was a dumb marketing move not to offer it on this car. I would of seriously considered buying a new Impala had they offered AWD. Its a good looking car both inside and out but GM cannot seem to get a complete formula for success on a lot of thier cars.
True! And therein lies the problem: one too many cars share this platform, and thus, GM has to curb the cost by omitting the option from at least one these cars as to avoid price overlap. This is why the XTS should be put to rest! But as long as there are customers who want this kind of GM sedan with an AWD option and a Cadillac badge, it has to stay! So the Impala may never see an AWD option because of it! It’s similar to the issue some are having with GM refusing to offer the 6.2L V8 on the Tahoe/Suburban: it’ll create far too much overlap in content and pricing. This is why I hate badge-engineering!!!!! You either do it right, or you do it wrong! GM has gotten better at it, but when you deal with issues like this, it shows how difficult it is for them to manage!
Malibu Impala which one to choose? They look almost the same, they are almost the same size so what’s the selling point fo the Impala? If youcan get practically the same vechile for a lower price which one would you choose?
I think the Impala is a big step up from the Malibu.
I would choose the Impala, because I prefer a V6 and a larger trunk.
I see or don’t see is advertisings . I have not seen any on the Impala everything has been on pushing the Malibu could be people don’t know it is still built.
the new Malibu looks frumpy and Id choose the Impala because the Impala looks a little better than the Malibu.
How much of that sales decrease is due to fleet sales, and how much is even the new bodystyle vs. the old style “Limited”? Since the Limited is now out of production (along with the police variants), that is probably the biggest source of the decline. It’s not as bad as it looks here.
They do not advertise the Impala at all. The new style body isn’t a rental queen anymore or part of fleets. Dealerships aren’t pushing it either. Sales decline in Full size cars are expected because the hot car segment is the mid sized market which the Malibu covers. Also, the hot vehicles are the cross overs and passenger cars have been on the decline for years.
true…cars arnt hot anymore….if they can make CUVs a little lower and a lot lighter….CUVs or tall wagons could be the new passenger car and sedans will be the old fashioned car.
Have to give The Original Dan a +1 . An AWD version would perk up sales a bit that seems to be what the market wants . It would cost more but would be worth it . It seems to be like the old GM , putting out a vehicle that isn’t 100% what it needs to sell .
I have said before that the Impala is actually a nicely equipped car and looks good too , it’s price is amazing for it’s content . But the Malibu might be stealing a few sales , however it is selling against some stiff competition and the huge SUV craze isn’t helping at all .
As long as this car has been on sale I have never seen a single ad for it in print or social media , this car wasn’t conceived as the fleet sale alternative to the old model . I feel this was a nice car selling at the wrong time .
325 total sales in Canada isn’t even a days production , the writing may be on the wall .
I’ve always liked the way the new Impala looked. The interior is awkward to me. Yes I agree an AWD option would be a plus as would an “SS”option. Oh crap overlap again.
I know a Ford die-hard that bought an Impala over a Taurus. He said the Impala has more foot-well room width-wise. He’s a, I’ll just say it, fat guy and doesn’t like the Taurus’ console being against his leg. I wonder if adding awd could impact the extra room there.
Here is the problem. You have one of the oldest platforms at GM in a segment that is getting more and more difficult to sell a sedan in. Lets face it most people in this price range are moving to Crossovers and SUV models,
AWD would not help and an SS would not help as both would only add to the price and how much would you pay for a Impala before you move to another higher end model even the new Buick on the new platform.
This car needs replaced and I would do it on an Alpha where it could sell in lower numbers and help support the other lower Volume Alpha models.
If there is any doubt just look to the closest competitor excluding Police sales and see how a performance model and AWD have not done much even for the Taurus.
Take away fleet sales and the Taurus would just vanish.
True, but don’t forget that the Taurus is also ancient. It’s now entering the 8th model year of that bodystyle, while riding on an even older platform and trails most interior dimensions to the cheaper Fusion sitting in the same showroom. Not saying a twin-turbo AWD Impala SS would set any new sales records, but I also don’t think anybody would be cross-shopping it with a Buick either.
I was looking at the 2017 Buick LaCrosse and noticed that the AWD is only offered in their top trim level LaCrosse Premium and it adds $2,200 to the price. That being said I don’t know why it can’t be an option for the Impala’s top trim level. Granted this doesn’t help with sales when it’s only an option on the top trim level. This is something GM just never understood. A Chevy buyer wanting AWD isn’t looking to goto Buick or Cadillac if they don’t see the option offered in the car they like at Chevy. What it does is push them to look at Toyota, Honda, Ford, etc… It’s an added option can’t see why they don’t understand that
