The defending champions of the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship’s Prototype class, Action Express Racing, today debuted their two Cadillac DPi-V.R racecars ahead of this week’s two-day pre-season test at Daytona.
Just as in 2016, AXR’s two Prototype entries will carry Mustang Sampling and Whelen liveries. The team has also elected to retain its driver lineup for 2017, with reigning champions Dane Cameron and Eric Curran in the Whelen car and teammates Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa in the Mustang Sampling car.
New at AXR for 2017 will be GP3 driver Seb Morris and former IndyCar driver Mike Conway. The pair will drive alongside Cameron and Curran at Daytona, while Fittipaldi and Barbosa will be joined once again by Felipe Albuquerque.
The driver trio of Fittipaldi, Barbosa and Albuquerque took victory in the 2016 24 Hours of Daytona ahead of Wayne Taylor Racing’s Ricky, Jordan and Wayne Taylor and Max Angelelli. WTR will also field a Cadillac DPi-V.R in 2017 andwill boast four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champ Jeff Gordon on their driver roster at Daytona.
Both AXR and WTR will test their respective Cadillac DPi-V.Rs this Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the 24 hours of Daytona in late January.
