The 2017 Buick LaCrosse pleasantly surprised us during our first drive of the flagship sedan. But it wasn’t just us who felt the new LaCrosse was a winner, the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) did, too.
AJAC has named the 2017 Buick LaCrosse its “Best New Large Premium Car” for Canada after daunting objective and subjective testing.
“Thanks AJAC, we’ve got our happy socks on!”, said Mike Speranzini, brand director of Buick in Canada. “Your recognition for the new Buick LaCrosse is just the latest reason customers are looking again at Buick for leadership in premium styling, quietness and connectivity.”
Testing is completed at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Clarington, where potential winners are put through a four-day test period. This year, the LaCrosse came out on top.

Glad to hear that it won, but I haven’t seen a single one new LaCrosse on the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) roads so far, except a few sitting on the dealer lots. As I already wrote in the comments on this website, new LaCrosse won’t sell much in Canada anyway, simply because Canadians are not really interested much in full size sedans these days.
It isnt a full-size car. It is a midsize at best. If you had a chance to see it or drive it you would quickly realize that. GMs hype and advertisement that it is a big sized car is all propaganda. And I am one Canadian who is still interested and looking for a full-size car.
Currently I am driving a 2005 Buick Park Avenue that I would like to replace but cant find anything out there to replace it with.
Once you enjoy a real full-size on the highway or on country roads you will never consider a smaller car for a long trip ever.
Small cars are great for the cities but not the suburbs, country or long highway drives. Each market has its own product. Today GM is trying to sell to the cities the biggest market forcing other customers to choose from its lineup of SUVs & CUVs.
In the last 10 years GM has taken itself out of the large full-size vehicle and please dont come back with the CT6 or XTS.
The XTS is a dress-up Impala and I still haven’t figured out the target segment for the overpriced CT6 that GM hasnt been able to sell much of anyway
Yesterday I test drove the new Lacrosse.
At best it is a midsize. That is trying to be a sports car. from its price and the fact that it is the top of the line Buick I would think that I am the target segment for this vehicle but after sitting in it and taking it for a spin I wouldn’t spent a dime on it.
Thank you Buick and GM for designing me out of your offering.
Good Luck selling this car in Canada in any meaningful numbers
I see that the opioid epidemic has spread to Canada. This car is far from the best of anything! Possibly the best of the worst. My 2017 Lacrosse(essence) has started to have transmission problems. The vehicle has only 2,700 miles on it. It clunks when place in reverse, and doesn’t shift through the gears in drive. I have not heard anything from the sales people since the day I took the vehicle, let alone the owners of the dealership in Las Cruces NM. Nobody cares how I feel about the car. It is going in for service and repair on the 5th of Dec. The last time the car was in for a week for wind noise and rattles, you guest it, it still has wind noise and rattles. Noise cancellation system has given up on this car. Ok Canada this is the best!
