There’s a fine line with car people. There are the purists, and then there are the mad scientists. This video is all about the mad scientist types, because there is almost nothing pure about this 1971 Jaguar XKE.
The Jaguar XKE was the North American variant of Jaguar E-Type, which means it’s highly sought after with collectors and enthusiasts alike. However, this Jaguar does not sport its original 5.3-liter V12 engine. Instead, a fuel injected Chevrolet V8 has been placed under the hood and stroked to 383 cubic inches. The results are utterly mad.
Bonkers, mad, insane, pick an adjective. The video above shows Mr. Regular riding shotgun in the 1971 Jaguar as it romps about the streets with oodles or torque. Not to mention, it’s paired to a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox.
Not everything is all American, though. If you notice in the video, the dome light goes on when the horn is honked. British engineering is still certainly present.

Geez…Just what I want in a swap, a heavy iron block, not. An aluminium block 5.3 if not a 6.0 or 6.2 would be soo much better and for much better HP. Gen. 1 SBC’s are the past and if you want performance, reliability, and gas mileage you’ve got to go with an LSx based engine. Even an iron block LSx based engine would be better, especially with boost or a high mileage junkyard swap. SBC gen 1 is so passe…
